Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is calling on Sen. Dianne Feinstein to resign, the latest sign of pressure the California Democrat faces from her own party to step down amid her extended absence from the Senate.

The 89-year-old Feinstein ā€œshould retire. I think criticisms of that stance as ā€˜anti-feminist’ are a farce,ā€ Ocasio-Cortez posted on Bluesky, a new social media app.

President Trump joked about Kirsten Gillibrand’s departure from the crowded Democratic presidential field.

About an hour after the news broke Wednesday, Trump took to Twitter to mock the 52-year-old New York senator for bowing out.

ā€œA sad day for the Democrats, Kirsten Gillibrand has dropped out of the Presidential Primary. I’m glad they never found out that she was the one I was really afraid of!ā€ Trump said.

Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand dropped out of the presidential race Wednesday, abruptly ending a campaign that once looked poised to ride strong #MeToo credentials to formidability but instead collapsed amid surprisingly low polling and major fundraising struggles.

ā€œI know this isn’t the result that we wanted,ā€ the 52-year-old New York senator said in an online video in which she didn’t endorse any other 2020 Democratic White House hopeful. ā€œBut it’s important to know when it’s not your time.ā€

ā€œDespite a soaring national profile in the U.S. Senate, [Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)] has failed to achieve liftoff as a presidential prospect. She has not broken 2 percent in a single national poll since officially declaring her candidacy in mid-March, and her 0.4 percent average in the RealClearPolitics aggregate of surveys places her behind the likes of JuliĆ”n Castro, Tulsi Gabbard and even geeky long shot Andrew Yang.ā€ (Politico)

The left wonders if Gillibrand still has a path to the nomination, and applauds her town hall performance.

The Democratic senator and 2020 presidential hopeful calls it her "Clean Elections Plan."

In her first major policy proposal of the 2020 presidential election, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D–NY)—a long shot candidate for the Democratic nomination—is suggesting that every voter be given $600 to donate to federal election campaigns. Affectionately named "Democracy Dollars," she says the taxpayer-funded venture will clean up elections and "attack the corrupting influence of money at its core."

Will it be treated as a ā€œbig idea?ā€

Kirsten Gillibrand is making a perhaps not-unwise bet in an era dominated by Democratic women: that her paid family leave proposal can distinguish her in a crowded 2020 Democratic field.

ā€œThe American people want national paid leave. We even have a president who I agree with on basically nothing talking about the need for paid leave,ā€ Gillibrand said during a Monday MSNBC town hall. ā€œThe best way to provide national paid leave is to make it an earned benefit.ā€

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), one of the most outspoken advocates of the #MeToo movement who has made fighting sexual misconduct a centerpiece of her presidential campaign, spent last summer pressing legislators to update Congress’ ā€œbrokenā€ system of handling sexual harassment.

At the same time, a mid-20s female aide to Gillibrand resigned in protest over the handling of her sexual harassment complaint by Gillibrandā€˜s office, and criticized the senator for failing to abide by her own public standards.
