Nearly half of Puerto Rico remained without electricity Thursday morning following an island-wide blackout that left 1.4 million customers in the dark and disrupted service at hospitals, its international airport and hotels, according to the Associated Press.

The outage, which began Wednesday afternoon, also left more than 400,000 residents without water. By Thursday morning, power had been restored to 51% of customers, while water service resumed for 83% of the affected population, the AP reported.

Dec 31 (Reuters) - Puerto Rico woke up in darkness on Tuesday morning, after a power grid failure left nearly all of the island without electricity. Around 90% of clients on the island were without power at 9 a.m. local time, according to energy distribution company Luma Energy's real-time portal. It was not immediately clear what caused the collapse, though local media reported that a chain reaction began in the Guayanilla province on the southern coast. A spokesperson for power generator Genera told local TV station WAPA that there was...

Gov. Pedro R. Pierluisi of Puerto Rico lost his bid for a second term on Sunday, suffering a rare defeat by a sitting governor on the island after a rancorous primary.

Mr. Pierluisi was defeated by Representative Jenniffer González-Colón, Puerto Rico’s nonvoting member of Congress, in the primary for the governing New Progressive Party, which supports Puerto Rican statehood, The Associated Press reported.

He bought his winning ticket at the 7-Eleven, located at 20945 Ecorse Road in Taylor. “I looked at my numbers after the drawing and I thought...

PORTLAND, Maine — Of all the high school infielders the Red Sox have taken in the upper rounds of the draft over the last five years, Matthew Lugo is a bit of a forgotten man. Maybe it’s because Lugo is part of a brutal 2019 Red Sox draft class that has produced just two fringe major leaguers (Chris Murphy and Brandon Walter) in five years’ time. Maybe it’s because other infielders, like Nick Yorke, Marcelo Mayer, Mikey Romero, Nazzan Zanetello and Antonio Anderson have gotten more attention, having been drafted...

A missing 7-year-old girl from Georgia was found in Puerto Rico, according to the FBI.

Stella Brannen Salter had been missing for over a week as the Lyons Police looked for her.

They teamed up with FBI Atlanta and law enforcement in Puerto Rico where Stella and her non-custodial mother were discovered in a store Saturday afternoon.

Wendy Salter was charged with interference with child custody. She'll go through extradition proceedings before she's brought back to Georgia.

The child has since been reunited with her father.

A missing 7-year-old Georgia girl has been found in Puerto Rico, more than a week after she was allegedly snatched by her mother, who did not have custody rights.

Stella Brennan Salter had been missing since March 29, when she and her mom, children’s book author Wendy Salter, 46, were last seen in Metter, about 65 miles from Savannah.

They were both found about noon Saturday at a store in Puerto Rico, according to the FBI office in Atlanta.
