California’s firefighting agency did not reject firetrucks sent from Oregon to help with the Los Angeles fires, contrary to online posts saying the vehicles were not deployed because they didn’t meet California’s strict emissions standards.

No out-of-state vehicles have been turned away, California and Oregon fire officials told Reuters.

The wildfires raging since last week in the Los Angeles area have killed at least 24 people, consumed over 62 square miles, destroyed thousands of homes and displaced more than 150,000 people. The National Weather Service predicted severe wind gusts again this week in Los Angeles and Ventura counties that could intensify and spread the fires, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives will defend a narrow majority in the Nov. 5 elections. Below are some of the races to watch as Republicans and Democrats battle through 2024 for control of the chamber.

REPLACING KEVIN MCCARTHY

Voters in Oregon and Kentucky head to the polls on Tuesday, where they’ll vote in their state’s presidential and congressional primaries. In Georgia and Idaho, voters will decide on congressional races and a handful of local races.

On Thursday, Idaho voters head back to the polls for the Democratic caucus. Trump previously won Idaho’s Republican caucus in March.

Voters in several states headed to the polls on Tuesday, weighing in on key races up and down the ballot in Oregon, Georgia, Kentucky and Idaho. 

November matchups were solidified in a number of closely watched House contests, while President Biden and former President Trump sailed to victory in their respective party primaries in Kentucky and Oregon.

At the same time, voters in California picked Republican Vince Fong in a special election to finish the rest of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R) term in the House.
