Liberty University’s Spirit of the Mountain marching band is set to partake in Monday’s inauguration parade, and all the band members are “thrilled” to represent their school on the historic day. Dr. Larry Seipp, Liberty’s director of athletic bands, applied to have the band perform in the parade in November and received confirmation of their appearance in late December. The band will perform “God Bless America” and “Fan the Flames,” Liberty’s fight song written by professor Dr. John Hugo. WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE INAUGURATION IN DC? “As the Director...

The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia and the legal group Butler Curwood have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Liberty University on behalf of a trans-identified former employee fired after telling his employer he identified as a woman. Filed Monday, the lawsuit claims that the Evangelical institution founded by Jerry Falwell Sr. violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which bans employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The Christian Post reached out to Liberty University for comment. A response is pending. The...

A record $14 million fine against Liberty University is drawing mixed reactions from students after a federal investigation found repeated failures to report on-campus crimes. The private Protestant institution in Virginia recently agreed to pay the fine as part of a settlement with the Department of Education. A federal investigation found “serious violations” regarding campus crime reporting and other safety issues, according to a news release from the department. “The U.S.

(The Center Square) – Virginia’s Liberty University has been fined $14 million in response to an investigation that says the school failed to report campus crime statistics and its handling of victims of sexual assault.

The U.S. Department of Education delivered its largest fine for violating the Clery Act, requiring higher education institutions to “produce and distribute Annual Security Reports containing their campus crime statistics.”

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Liberty University failed to warn its Virginia campus community about safety threats, including from individuals accused of sexual violence, and systematically underreported crime statistics, according to a Washington Post report on the preliminary findings of a long-running federal investigation. The private Christian university has marketed itself for years as having one of the nation's safest campuses. But the Post reported that the U.S.

Citing possible violations of federal law, three senators, including the two from Virginia, are pressing the U.S. Department of Education to investigate Liberty University’s handling of sexual assault claims.

Liberty’s board also voted Friday to open an “independent and comprehensive review” of the school office tasked with handling discrimination and abuse.

For years, there was an adage around Liberty University that if God split Jerry Falwell in half, you would have his sons Jerry and Jonathan.

Jerry Jr. inherited his father’s desire to be a force in American politics, and his post as Liberty University president, while Jonathan inherited his father’s gift for evangelical uplift and became pastor of his church.
