gypt made a new proposal last week aimed at restoring the Gaza ceasefire deal, security sources told Reuters on Monday.

The proposal follows an escalation in violence after Israel resumed air and ground operations against Hamas last Tuesday, effectively ending a two-month period of relative calm.

There’s been an avalanche of news related to the presidential race lately, which may have overshadowed a Washington Post report that deserves public attention. The lede is an immediate attention-grabber: The Post’s report, which has not been independently verified by MSNBC or NBC News, went on to note that records indicate that four men ultimately arrived at the state-run National Bank of Egypt and carried away bags containing nearly $10 million in bundles of $100 bills. The money represented ā€œwhat was then a sizable share of Egypt’s reserve of U.S....

CIA director Bill Burns and President Biden's top Middle East adviser Brett McGurk are meeting with senior Israeli and Egyptian security officials in Cairo Monday to discuss the Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal and arrangements to secure the Egypt-Gaza border, four Israeli and U.S. officials said.

Why it matters: The Egypt-Gaza border security arrangements and the reopening of the Rafah crossing are key issues to solve ahead of a possible hostage and ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has met with top Israeli opposition leaders as the United States continues to push for a truce deal in Gaza.

Blinken held talks with Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid in Israel on Tuesday before travelling to Jordan to attend an international Gaza aid conference.

In his meeting with Gantz, Blinken blamed Hamas for failure to reach a truce agreement.

US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced an additional $404 million in new aid to Palestinians, while attending the ā€œCall for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gazaā€ Conference in Jordan on Tuesday.

This is in addition to ā€œthe more than $1.8 billion in development, economic, and humanitarian aid that the United States has provided since 2021ā€, as ā€œthe largest single country provider of assistance for Palestinians,ā€ Blinken noted.

BLINKEN: ā€˜IF YOU WANT A CEASEFIRE, PRESS HAMAS TO SAY YES’: Even though the ceasefire and hostage release plan announced by President Joe Biden on May 31 was presented as an Israeli proposal, Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in Tel Aviv on Monday urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to support it.
