In the wake of the fatal stabbing at a Frisco high school track meet, the CBS News Texas I-Team found a surge of misinformation has swept through social media platforms, causing confusion and fear.

High-profile X accounts (formerly Twitter), including @EndWokeness and @LibsofTikTok, quickly amplified the incident just hours after it occurred on April 2, claiming it received "zero national outrage" and didn't "fit the narrative." These posts garnered nearly 50 million views.

A quiet revolution is unfolding in the cryptocurrency world, and it's not about Bitcoin or Ethereum. The focus is on stablecoins, a type of cryptocurrency pegged to a specific reserve asset, often the U.S. dollar, which allows them to maintain a steadier value. According to the World Economic Forum, stablecoins are essentially digital dollars designed to stay steady, unlike cryptocurrencies that spike or plummet in value like Bitcoin or Dogecoin.

On four separate occasions, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Health and Human Services secretary, has suggested that the measles outbreak in Texas, which is now over 500 cases, is beginning to subside and grow more slowly. But a review of state data indicates there’s no decline yet in the pace of cases.

Yes. Current population forecasts indicate that states like New York and California, which tend to elect Democrats, may lose congressional seats following apportionment, a process that redistributes the country’s 435 congressional districts every 10 years.  AllSides highlights content from Gigafact, a network of newsrooms that respond to online claims. Before President Donald Trump paused some new tariffs that he unveiled on April 2, several economic groups estimated that tariffs he has announced this year could raise between roughly $2 trillion and more than $4 trillion in federal revenue over a 10-year period. But that’s well short of the $6 trillion or $7 trillion that White House trade adviser Peter Navarro claimed the tariffs would raise to help pay for tax cuts, including an extension of the 2017 tax law.

Abrupt changes in staffing and some procedures at the Social Security Administration, coupled with false and misleading claims about widespread fraud, have prompted heated criticism from Democrats, with some statements leaving the wrong impression that benefits are being cut. Experts share a concern that disorderly actions by the Trump administration could cause administrative errors and disruptions, but there has been no proposed change to benefits mandated by law.

On April 7, Facebook pulled the plug on the censorship of "independent fact-checkers," replacing it with a "Community Notes" approach, like Elon Musk's X uses. No one was more upset than the censorious left-wing "fact" police.

Angie Holan, the leader of the Poynter Institute's International Fact-Checking Network, marked "International Fact-Checking Day" by proclaiming they are needed now more than ever: "Fact-checking holds the line on reality for history's sake. It builds evidence-based records that can withstand political pressures."

Donald Trump has defended his tariffs by arguing that they are already raking in almost $2bn (£1.6bn) a day for the US.

Speaking after more than $5tn of losses on the US stock market since his “liberation day” announcement last week, he made the claim on Tuesday, adding: “America is going to be very rich again, very soon.”

On the first day of his administration, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the federal government to no longer consider a person’s gender and to recognize people as either male or female, as defined by the size of their reproductive cells.
