After the Department of Government Efficiency gained access to student loan databases, some social media posts promoted a federal privacy law as the key to debtholders’ financial freedom.

All you have to do, the posts said, is file a complaint with the Education Department requesting your loans be forgiven on the grounds that DOGE violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 by gaining access to personal loan information.

ongressional Republicans are frustrated with the increasing number of nationwide injunctions issued by district court judges that have blocked President Donald Trump's policies. Senator Josh Hawley introduced legislation aimed at banning these broad injunctions.

A recent Bankrate survey reveals that 72% of adults with credit card debt are actively pursuing rewards, despite financial experts warning that the interest payments often outweigh the benefits of these rewards.

“It doesn’t make sense to pay 20, 25 or 30% in interest just to earn a few percentage points in cash back or travel rewards,” says Ted Rossman, a senior industry analyst at Bankrate. "Rewards are great, but only if you're able to pay in full and avoid interest each month."

Elon Musk, the billionaire leading a government efficiency initiative, has for weeks made broad and unsupported claims of rampant fraud in federal spending.

In a series of interviews on conservative podcasts and television interviews, Mr. Musk has defended attempts by the so-called Department of Government Efficiency to target popular entitlement programs like Social Security and access sensitive payment systems with a series of inaccurate claims. A representative for DOGE did not respond when asked for evidence of Mr. Musk’s claims.

In an interview with NBC News aboard Air Force Two on March 14, Vice President JD Vance said that White House adviser Elon Musk has made “mistakes” in his role with the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which has been tasked with reducing the federal workforce and government spending.

“Elon himself has said that sometimes you do something, you make a mistake, and then you undo the mistake. I’m accepting of mistakes,” Vance told NBC News. “I also think you have to quickly correct those mistakes,” the vice president said.

“We have had record people wanting to join our military in the last 2½ months literally since this — I think probably since the election November 5th. But especially since we came to office and since I announced Pete. He’s young, he’s smart, he’s strong, he loves it, and they love him. But we’ve had record numbers of people wanting to join our military. Now if you go back six months, it was the exact opposite. You had record numbers of people not wanting to join the military. Now you have record numbers of people wanting to be in our military.”
