As tariffs put new pressure on homebuilders, and cuts at the Department of Housing and Urban Development disrupt federal funds for affordable housing, one New York City developer is looking to jumpstart growth using a novel financing strategy. With a $20 million donation, the nonprofit Volunteers of America-Greater New York has seeded what the group is calling a Housing Innovation Fund that’s designed to help pay upfront costs for affordable housing projects. It’s part of a wider push to leverage philanthropic dollars in the earliest stages of the development process,...

Rogers Communications Inc. narrowly missed analyst estimates in the first quarter as competitive pricing weighed on its cable business.

Canada’s largest wireless company earned 99 Canadian cents per share on an adjusted basis, less than the C$1.01 expected by analysts in a Bloomberg survey. Revenue of almost C$5 billion was in line with forecasts.

Boeing Co. reported first-quarter earnings that exceeded Wall Street’s estimates, giving the embattled planemaker a greater degree of stability to navigate dislocations in global trade that have complicated exports.

The planemaker used $2.3 billion in free cash in the three months ended March 31 as it ramped up jet production, Boeing said in a statement Wednesday. That’s better than the $3.4 billion withdrawal that analysts had predicted, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The adjusted loss per share of 49 cents also beat analysts’ predictions.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr's quest to "Make America Healthy Again" grew far more substantial on Tuesday, with the announcement that the federal government will eliminate all petroleum-based synthetic food dyes by the end of 2026. The announcement came at a Washington DC news conference, with RFK Jr joined by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Marty Makary and National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya. The podium was flanked by "MAHA Moms" and their children; the moms are a coalition of outspoken advocates of the...

The $1.7 trillion fashion industry is a major polluter: By one estimate, it’s responsible for between 8% and 10% of annual greenhouse gas emissions, more than aviation and shipping combined. Clothes manufacturing relies on fossil-fuel-derived fibers like polyester and guzzles energy and water. And the churn of fast fashion means that many items are discarded soon after they’re purchased, which has contributed to eye-popping amounts of textile waste.
