Human Rights Watch warned Friday that the United States is in danger of "complicity in war crimes" as it continues to support and provide weapons to Israel amid civilians deaths in Gaza.
The global justice organization issued the warning after the U.S. on Friday was the sole vote to veto a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian territory.
"By continuing to provide Israel with weapons and diplomatic cover as it commits atrocities, including collectively punishing the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza, the U.S. risks complicity in war crimes," said a statement fired off by the the group's United Nations Director Louis Charbonneau.
The American veto prevents the Security Council from progress on issues that Washington itself had been call ing for, including compliance with international humanitarian law, protection of civilians and the release of all civilians held hostage, Charbonneau argued.
