The Democratic National Committee on Friday accused independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and a supportive super PAC of violating election laws by working to get him on the ballot in multiple states—taking aim at a longshot 2024 candidate who could threaten President Joe Biden’s reelection bid.
In a Federal Election Commission complaint, the DNC alleges the PAC—called American Values 2024—is illegally coordinating with Kennedy Jr.’s campaign, with Bob Lenhard, legal counsel for the DNC, telling NBC and other outlets the campaign is "in the process of accepting a $15 million unlawful in-kind contribution," referring to the $10 million to $15 million that American Values 2024 has promised to spend on ballot access.
In order to get listed on general election ballots as an independent candidate, Kennedy Jr. and his supporters will need to gather thousands of signatures—a grueling state-by-state effort American Values 2024 has publicly offered to assist with.
