Weirton Medical Center is the latest hospital to join WVU Medicine’s fast-growing family of health care providers as the system topped $6 billion in revenue from operations for the first time.
WVU Medicine now runs two dozen hospitals in West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland, including three that became subsidiaries in 2023 alone, besting Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Health Network in revenue and number of hospital beds.
But WVU Medicine isn’t the only health system in West Virginia on the move. Nonprofit Vandalia Health Inc. — headquartered a quick walk from WVU Medicine’s corporate headquarters in Morgantown — has grown from eight hospitals to the second-biggest employer in the state with 17 owned or managed hospitals since the system was formed in 2022.
