The Californian, officialy known as The Salinas Californian, is a digital and print newspaper published in Salinas, California. Founded in 1871, the paper is part of the USA Today Network, owned by Gannett.
An independent review of the Californian conducted in May 2022 by AllSides Managing Editor Henry A. Brechter (Center bias) failed to notice a clear political bias one way or another in the paper's content.

California Assemblymember Dawn Addis has proposed a new bill that would grant more local control over proposed battery energy storage system (BESS). The announcement came a week after a large fire at the Moss Landing Power Plant, which caused Monterey County Sheriff's Office to issue an evacuation order for roughly 1,200 north county residents.
