Denver resident Cynthia Barnes with her cat Lily. Barnes couldn’t afford cancer treatment for Lily, who died a year later.
When Cynthia Barnes found out that her cat Lily needed radiation therapy to treat a rare form of cancer, the Denver resident was confronted with a costly reality. The price was more than $5,000, a sum beyond what Barnes was able to pay on her income as a freelance writer.
As a result, Barnes didn’t go through with the treatment — and Lily died a year later.
