Mexico Posts $2.21 Billion February Trade Surplus

MEXICO CITY--Mexico registered a $2.21 trade surplus in February as imports fell more than exports, partially reversing the previous month's deficit. February exports fell 2.9% from the year-earlier month to $49.28 billion, and imports were down 8.3% at $47.07 billion, statistics institute Inegi said Thursday. Petroleum exports fell 24% to $1.99 billion, which included $1.45 billion for crude oil. Mexico exported 752,000 barrels a day of crude, down from 957,000 barrels a day in February of 2024, while the average price fell by $2.69 a barrel to $68.99 a barrel....

Mexico’s inflation slowed more than expected in the first half of March, as the central bank is set to meet this week to consider a sixth straight rate cut and likely a second straight half-point reduction.

Consumer prices rose 3.67% from a year prior, below the 3.7% median estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg and less than the 3.81% in the previous two-week period. Core inflation , which leaves out volatile items including food and fuel, also decelerated to 3.56% from 3.66% in late February.
