A man who has been calling for better accessibility at concerts in Lincoln after a "dangerous" experience last year is confident there will not be a repeat. Richard Adams, 45, who runs Facebook page Disabled in Lincoln, has been in talks with Live at Lincoln Castle organisers Cuffe & Taylor to improve the experience for disabled people this year. Issues raised from the 2024 concerts included not being able to see the stage, a lack of accessible toilets and cobbles and cables in the accessibility lane. Cuffe & Taylor said...

The FAA and the NTSB have now taken over the investigation. Three people have died, and their bodies have been recovered after a small plane crash in Nebraska, authorities said. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said that ā€œa small plane was traveling along the Platte River south of Fremont when it crashed into the riverā€ on Friday night. ā€œThe three occupants of the plane have been recovered and are confirmed deceased,ā€ authorities continued. ā€œThose identities will not be released at this time pending next of kin notification.ā€ The Federal Aviation...

The first round of severe storms pushed through the Plains on Thursday, during what was expected to be an active weekend for severe weather. More than 1 million people were included in a Level 3 out of 5 risk zone from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center, with Omaha, Nebraska, in the bull’s-eye. While the city proper missed out on seeing the strongest of the storms, it didn’t prevent warning sirens from blaring on the north side of the city, and tornadoes from being spotted in nearby Iowa. Several storm chasers, including...

SOMETIMES NEWS has a way of circling back. Here are a few updates from items that have previously appeared in this column: In September, I wrote about Chef Chris Viaud closing his Haitian restaurant, Ansanm, in Milford. At the time, he said he would return to begin a pop-up model. There’s now another way for diners to enjoy his culinary work. Viaud, a two-time James Beard Foundation Award nominee and Top Chef alum, was recently named the director of culinary arts at The Lake Estate on Winnisquam, a new 114-room...

A local Nebraska fashion week is getting a lot of attention due to a jacket that appeared to have a design of a swastika. Designer Kelli Molczyk came under immediate fire after the outerwear was seen on the Omaha Fashion Week runway in late February — and now she’s claiming it’s a misunderstanding. ā€œThe design for the outfit at Omaha Fashion Week came from an antique pinwheel quilt remnant that I purchased from a well-known store in Central Nebraska two years ago,ā€ she wrote in a statement on Instagram. ā€œAt...

U.S. — In another blow for Disney, the live-action remake Snow White was beaten at the box office by a middle school recorder recital in Rushville, Nebraska. According to tracking data, the auditorium had about five dozen people gathered to listen to a recorder medley, trouncing national viewership of Snow White four-fold. "It's a tough pill to swallow," said Disney producer Dana MacIntosh. "After spending hundreds of millions of dollars and years of work on this movie, it turns out people would rather hear some twelve-year-olds screech their way through...

A powerful winter storm that caused blizzard conditions in parts of the Plains and Upper Midwest has finally moved out of the region, but not before blasting the region with heavy snow and high winds that led to whiteout conditions and treacherous travel. The blizzard rapidly strengthened as it moved across the region on Wednesday, pulling in widespread snow and damaging winds on the backside of the low-pressure system. The Kansas Department of Transportation closed several roads and highways across the state on Wednesday, including Interstate 70, due to deteriorating...
