We visited C.C. Tomatoes, an Italian eatery five miles north of downtown Concord, on a recent Sunday evening. It’s not the fanciest spot, but it’s cozy inside, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable, so families can feel comfortable dropping in for pizza or a full meal. For a long time, Italian restaurants were off-limits to those of us with celiac, but thankfully, that has changed. Most New Hampshire eateries do a good job of offering gluten-free menu choices, and C.C. Tomatoes is one of them. The extensive...

The hummingbirds are back in New Hampshire and Maine for 2025. As of April 22, tiny ruby-throated hummingbird have been spotted in New Hampshire and as far north as Portland, Maine. The first were spotted in New Hampshire on April 18, and spotters reported the hummingbirds were looking for hummingbird feeders and petunia to fuel up. It's no wonder they're hungry. The tiny birds - they weigh less than a nickel – make a huge annual migration every year, from the United States in the summer months to Mexico, Costa...

A skier was killed Sunday, April 20 when he went off a New Hampshire trail, according to police and the ski resort where it happened. Someone called the Jackson Police Department for help that day around 5:51 p.m. to the Black Mountain Ski Area in Jackson, about 100 miles north of Concord. The caller said the man, later identified as 39-year-old Eric M. Page, had gone off the trail and was seriously hurt, police said in a news release. Erik Mogensen, general manager of Black Mountain, said in a statement...

Concord Police are seeking information and witnesses after a proposed Facebook Marketplace exchange in the city ended with the seller pointing a gun at the buyer. The two parties had agreed to meet on Monday in the parking lot outside the Fort Eddy Road Petco for an Apple iPhone purchase, according to Concord Police. The buyer told police that the seller pointed a gun at him and threatened to shoot, and police were called at 12:25 p.m. The suspect was driving “a white-colored vehicle, similar in shape and size to...

A beaver dam holding back a pond collapsed Tuesday afternoon, sending a deluge of water over a portion of Elm Street in Penacook and closing the road for a day. The dam had created a large pond on Dagoty Hill, it sent water rushing downhill, overloading culverts that carry a small creek underneath Elm Street near the intersection with Peaceful Lane. At times more than a foot of water was flowing over the pavement. City crews shut the road until the flood could subside and they could determine whether it...
