Kentucky has 120 counties, and every one of them played a role in Gov. Andy Beshear's reelection. From sweeping wins in Louisville and Lexington to gains in other parts of the Bluegrass State, Beshear rolled past Republican challenger Daniel Cameron in Tuesday's election, defeating the state's attorney general by racking up 53% of the vote. It was an improvement on his 2019 win over then-Gov. Matt Bevin, where Beshear won by less than half a percentage point. And those gains show up when you take a closer look at maps...

Long Island Republicans painted the town red on Tuesday night after a landslide victory in the deep blue state. GOP candidate Ed Romaine outshined his Democrat opponent David Calone in the Suffolk County Executive election, resulting in Republicans now holding all of the countywide seats in Nassau and Suffolk Counties — both county executive seats, the district attorney and comptroller's offices, and all four congressional seats. Romaine secured 56 percent of the vote, beating Calone by more than 26,000 votes. Political analysts told CBS News that a second GOP wave...

But the proverbial elephant in the GOP room remains former President Donald Trump, who both animates and undermines his party’s electoral chances. As one respondent put it, ā€œDonald Trump is at once the cause of and solution to all of the party’s problems.ā€ ā€˜We must do more as a party to appeal to women and mothers.’ Holly Harris is a former GOP strategist from Kentucky who founded the Network, an organization that supports lawmakers working on solutions to America’s greatest challenges. We must do more as a party to appeal...

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) was the clear star of what turned out to be a winning night on Tuesday for Democrats. Despite polls showing a close race in the leadup to Election Day, Beshear appears poised to win reelection against his Republican opponent, state Attorney General Daniel Cameron, by about 5 points in a deep red state. The win could be just the start for Beshear, whose profile has skyrocketed nationally overnight. ā€œI think more people are going to want to figure out what made him so special to...

Senate Republicans on Wednesday took a hard look at Tuesday night's punishing election results in some key battleground states, and they're not pleased with what they're seeing. "Yesterday to me was a complete failure," said Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina. Republicans were handed a string of rebukes, from red-state Kentucky's projected move to reelect Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear to Virginia projected to elect Democratic majorities in both chambers of its state Legislature, likely thwarting GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin's election promise to enact a 15-week abortion ban.

Fresh off a decisive victory to keep his job as governor, Andy Beshear says now is the time to ā€œget more big things doneā€ for Kentucky families — and education tops the list. ā€œThat starts with the type of investments that we need in our system of public education and begin with the educator raises that are absolutely critical for moving our state forward,ā€ Beshear said while speaking to reporters from the Capitol Wednesday afternoon. ā€œA second piece is universal pre-K. It’s time to make sure that no Kentucky child...

How Democrat Andy Beshear won re-election as governor in deep-red Kentucky

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear won re-election on Tuesday in another major election victory for Democrats. Beshear defeated Republican challenger and state Attorney General Daniel Cameron in what was regarded by many as a close race.

Host Scott Tong breaks down the result with Ryland Barton, the managing editor of Kentucky Public Radio.

Ahead of Election Day 2023, Donald Trump focused most of his electoral energies on one specific statewide candidate: Daniel Cameron, the Republican attorney general in Kentucky, and the GOP’s highly touted gubernatorial candidate. For months, Cameron was trailing, but as polls showed a narrowing race at the finish line, the former president published an item to his social-media platform over the weekend, eagerly taking credit for the candidate’s position. Cameron ā€œhas made a huge surge, now that [voters] see my strong Endorsement,ā€ Trump wrote, adding that the candidate has a...

Kentucky’s Democratic incumbent Andy Beshear was projected to win his second term as governor on Tuesday night with roughly 53 percent of the vote. He beat out the state’s Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Beshear managed to stay in the governor’s office, despite the fact that more than 60 percent of his state’s voters sided with Republican former President Donald Trump when he ran for reelection in 2020. What happened in Virginia? Democrats retained control of the Virginia State Senate on Tuesday night. The race to control the state’s House...
