(Portland, OR) -- Teachers in the Portland Public Schools district are approving a new contract following a three-week-long strike. The Portland Association of Teachers voted in favor of ratifying the new contract yesterday evening. The teachers union says 95-percent of its members voted to approve the contract. The school board followed suit later last night and voted unanimously to approve the agreement. The new contract gives teachers pay raises along with more time to prepare and additional mental health supports for students.

The district has warned that the new contract will require budget cuts PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Portland Public Schools and the district’s 3,500 teachers voted to ratify a contract Tuesday that officially ended the month-long teacher strike. The agreement is a three-year contract that features teacher pay raises, student mental health support, more planning time, and more parent input on class sizes. The district has warned that the new contract will require budget cuts, but where those cuts will come from is still unknown. The strike, which lasted for 26...

Members of the Portland Association of Teachers have ratified the tentative agreement with Portland Public Schools. According to the union, teachers approved the contract Tuesday with overwhelming support. “After 15 days on strike, we’re excited to announce that our tentative agreement has been ratified. With 93.4% of members voting, 94.7% voted to ratify the tentative agreement!” the union said in an Instagram post. The three-year $175 million dollar contract agreement comes after a strike that lasted nearly all of November and canceled 11 school days. As part of the deal,...

Over the weekend, Portland Public Schools (PPS), the largest school district in the state, reached a tentative agreement to end the more than three-week strike that started on Nov. 1. However, the $175 million contract agreement still needs to be approved by the union as classes resume. "This contract is a...

Leaders of Portland Public Schools and the Portland Association of Teachers finalized a tentative agreement Sunday, allowing 43,000 students to return to school Monday for the first time since Halloween, union and district officials said Sunday afternoon.

A final sticking point â€“ an additional $4 million in raises – was resolved in favor of teachers, school board chair Gary Hollands told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Students are expected to be back in the classroom on Monday, following the Thanksgiving holiday. Teachers have been on strike for almost a month. PORTLAND, Ore. — Nearly four full weeks into a teachers strike that has shuttered Portland Public Schools (PPS), both the district and the teachers union have tentatively agreed to a deal that could see students back in classrooms on Monday. The Portland teachers strike is over. • 81 Portland-area schools will resume classes Monday, albeit two hours later than normal. Driving the news: After months of negotiations — including a series of 24-hour bargaining sessions throughout Thanksgiving weekend — Portland Public Schools administrators reached a tentative agreement with the Portland Association of Teachers on Sunday. • The union and the district tentatively agreed on a 13.75% cost-of-living wage increase over three years, as well as more planning time for elementary and middle school teachers.

Portland Public Schools released a cryptic statement Sunday afternoon suggesting it’s possible students could return to classes on Monday, even though the school board and union had not yet reached a tentative contract deal and won’t vote on one Sunday. Union leaders did not immediately respond to questions about the district’s statement, which didn’t include specifics. Portland school board members had scheduled a Sunday afternoon board meeting that raised public hopes for an end to the protracted strike that has kept students out of school since Halloween. But those hopes...
