Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager acquitted of murder charges after killing two people during a chaotic night of racial unrest, says he plans to sue media outlets and celebrities who've lied about him.

This week, Rittenhouse announced The Media Accountability Project, a new effort to "to help fundraise and hold the media accountable" for alleged lies about him. Rittenhouse hasn't named any specific media outlets he plans to sue. He did say he plans to sue Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur, TV personality Whoopi Goldberg and basketball star LeBron James, who he accuses of calling him a murderer despite his acquittal on homicide charges. "I don’t want to see anybody else have to deal with what I went through. So, I want to hold them accountable for what they did to me," Rittenhouse said while announcing the effort in an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson (Right bias).

The story was a top headline from many right-rated outlets this week; fewer left- and center-rated sources covered it. Some reports from the left focused on how Rittenhouse killed people; highlighted how the political right has embraced him; and framed his trial as controversial. Conversely, right-rated sources often highlighted the jury's conclusion that the killings were self-defense, and focused on media bias during the Rittenhouse trial and examples of Goldberg and others calling him a murderer. Reports from the right also often framed the announcement as part of a broader reckoning for biased news outlets.

Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen who shot dead two men and injured another during anti-racism protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020, has announced the formation of a group to fund lawsuits against reporters – and also Whoopi Goldberg.

In November, after a controversial trial, Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all charges related to the shootings, which he carried out with an assault rifle while purportedly providing security in the protest-racked city.

He has since emerged as a rightwing celebrity. He spoke to Tucker Carlson on Fox News on Monday night.

Kyle Rittenhouse vowed Monday to hold media organizations and public figures accountable for repeatedly calling him a “white supremacist” and a “murderer.”

Rittenhouse announced his team is launching “The Media Accountability Project” to fundraise and bring forth legal action toward media organizations that have reported “lies” and inaccurate information.

The 18-year-old was acquitted on Nov. 19, 2021, for fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, and injuring Gaige Grosskreutz with an AR-15-style rifle in August, 2020.
