Voters go to the polls today for 2024 primaries in Georgia, Mississippi, Washington state, and Hawaii. Here's what to expect.
Georgia: Fifty-nine delegates are up for grabs in the Republican primary, with 108 delegates at stake in the Democratic primary. Georgia is expected to be a battleground state in the November presidential election.
Mississippi: Thirty-five delegates are at stake in the Republican primary, with 40 delegates in the Democratic primary. A recent poll by RealClearPoltiics shows President Joe Biden trails former President Donald Trump by 4 percentage points in this conservative Southern state.
Washington State: Forty-three delegates are up for grabs in the Republican primary, with 92 in the Democratic primary. A judge ruled in January that Trump could remain on Washington State's Republican presidential primary ballot. Biden easily beat Trump in the state in 2020, and leads him in recent polling.
Hawaii: Nineteen Republican delegates are at stake here, and Biden won the island's Democratic caucus on March 6. Trump lost Hawaii by almost 30 percentage points to Biden in 2020 in this solid blue state.
How the Media Covered it: The primary races are being heavily covered across the political spectrum, with many noting that both Trump and Biden could clinch their party's nomination today. Trump currently has 1,078 delegates of the 1,215 needed for the Republican nomination; Biden has 1,866 of the 1,968 delegates he needs for the Democratic nomination.
