Former President Donald Trump was interviewed before the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago on Wednesday in what outlets across the spectrum have described as “chaotic.”

The Details: Trump was interviewed by Rachel Scott of ABC News (Lean Left bias) whom he criticized for giving him a “very rude introduction.” Also moderating the interview were Harris Faulkner of Fox News (Right bias), and Kadia Goba of Semafor (Lean Left bias). In the interview, Trump questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’ race, accusing her of leaning into being black for political gain.

Key Quotes: Trump said, “I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black and now she wants to be known as black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she black?” Trump also criticized the Association, saying, “You invited me under false pretense.”

How The Media Covered It: Many outlets in the center and left focused headlines on Trump’s comment regarding Harris’ race. Some outlets on the right like The New York Post (Lean Right bias) framed headlines similarly. Fox News highlighted that Trump clashed with Scott. Washington Examiner (Lean Right bias) noted that Trump commented on the death of Sonya Massey.
