Wisconsin brought charges against three men for attempting to send fake electors indicating former President Donald Trump won the state in the 2020 election.
For Context: The alleged effort was part of a larger nationwide scheme by Trump allies to change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election by sending pro-Trump electors to Congress from states won by President Joe Biden. This is the fifth state to pursue charges against Trump allies for attempting to overturn the results of the election.
Details: The three men charged are Kenneth Chesebro, James Troupis and Michael Roman. All three were charged in state court with a single count of forgery. Chesebro, described by the New York Times (Lean Left bias) as an “architect of the Trump campaign’s plans to impanel slates of bogus electors in several states that Mr. Trump lost,” previously pled guilty and agreed to cooperate in a similar case in Georgia.
Key Quote: Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said in a statement, “The criminal complaint in this case alleges that the defendants were part of a conspiracy to present a certificate of purported electoral votes from individuals who were not Wisconsin’s duly appointed electors. The Wisconsin Department of Justice is committed to protecting the integrity of our electoral process.”
How the Media Covered It: The Daily Caller (Right bias) noted in its headline that Kaul is a Democrat. The New York Times mentioned his political affiliation in the second paragraph, while The Hill (Center bias) made no mention of this.
