Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland said Monday House Democrats are “working” on legislation to disqualify former President Donald Trump as an insurrectionist.

The Supreme Court said that Congress alone had the power to enforce the “insurrection clause” of the 14th Amendment in an unsigned 9-0 ruling that overturned the Colorado Supreme Court’s Dec. 19 decision that Trump was disqualified under the provisions of the 14th Amendment. Raskin said that the 2021 impeachment of Trump over the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol building could be the basis to do so.

Maine’s secretary of state on Monday withdrew her determination that former President Trump should be blocked from the state’s ballot under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause after the Supreme Court ruled in Trump’s favor.

The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, ruled today that former President Donald Trump can appear on the ballot in Colorado for the upcoming presidential election.

The decision came after six Colorado voters filed a lawsuit against Trump and the Colorado secretary of state, arguing that when Trump on Jan. 6 led an insurrection to breach the Capitol as Congress certified the 2020 election results, he was constitutionally ineligible to serve as president again because of Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The Supreme Court handed former President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign a win with its latest ruling, but it wasn't exactly a home run for the Republican frontrunner.

The court ruled in Trump's favor Monday, reversing the Colorado Supreme Court's decision that determined the former president was ineligible for the state's primary ballot because of his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol Riot. In a unanimous ruling, the nine justices agreed that an individual state shouldn't be able to choose who gets to run for the White House.

The Supreme Court this morning put an end to court challenges to Donald Trump’s qualification for the presidency under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. It did so the day before the Super Tuesday primaries in Colorado and Maine, two states that have sought to bar Trump from the ballot. Not one justice thought that Colorado had the power to do what it did in a decision full of elastic reasoning. Only the most deluded figures of the legal “Resistance” ever believed this gambit would work.

An Illinois judge ruled Wednesday that former president Donald Trump should be removed from the state’s primary ballot because of the 14th Amendment ban on insurrectionists holding office.

Illinois became the third state where Trump has been kicked off the primary ballot, following Colorado and Maine. Both of those states’ rulings are on hold pending an appeal of the Colorado decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie Porter barred Trump from the Illinois ballot one month after the anti-Trump challenge was dismissed by the Illinois State Board of Elections. 

An Illinois state judge on Wednesday barred Donald Trump from appearing on the Illinois' Republican presidential primary ballot because of his role in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but she delayed her ruling from taking effect in light of an expected appeal by the former U.S. president.

Former President Trump isn’t the only public official whose disqualification under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection ban has landed at the Supreme Court. 

Just days after the justices heard oral arguments in Trump’s historic case Thursday, they are scheduled this week to consider taking up another official’s disqualification: a New Mexico county commissioner who participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
