Polls suggest it will be a close race between Sen. Marco Rubio (R) and challenger Val Demings (D).

Our friends at guides.vote have built helpful breakdowns of each 2022 Florida Senate candidate's major policy positions and stances for their 2022 campaign. View the guide here.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has long teased a potential 2024 presidential bid, and this week, the Republican provided the clearest evidence yet that he would run for the White House during his debate with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist.

"Why don't you look in the eyes of the people of the state of Florida and say to them if you're reelected, you will serve a full four-year term as governor?" Crist asked DeSantis on Monday night. "Yes or no?"

The one-hour debate Tuesday night between Florida’s Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and his Democrat challenger, Rep. Val Demings, the only debate to be held in this race, probably didn’t change many minds. In fact, save for political junkies, very few minds likely tuned in.

The two major party candidates in one of the most high-profile Senate races of the year litigated hot button issues for an hour in Lake Worth in their only scheduled debate.

After months of back and forth through ads and interviews, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and his Democratic challenger, U.S. Rep. Val Demings, finally were able to make their arguments in person, and they made the most of the opportunities from opening bell to close.

Senator Marco Rubio affirmed Tuesday evening that he’s not only an anti-abortion absolutist — he’s also a Second Amendment extremist. Facing questions about gun control during his debate with Democratic challenger Val Demings, the Florida Republican suggested background checks were useless, called the modest safety bill some in his own party supported ā€œcrazy,ā€ and turned his back on a measure he backed in the wake of the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas school shooting in 2018.

New polls suggest that Republicans are taking the lead in two of Florida's most highly watched races this November.

What's happening: Gov. Ron DeSantis is leading Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist 52% to 41%, with 6% of voters undecided, according to a new Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy poll.

Meanwhile, Sen. Marco Rubio is leading Democratic Rep. Val Demings 47% to 41% in the U.S. Senate race, per Mason-Dixon's polling. 10% of voters were undecided in the Senate race.

An Arizona drag queen said she has one question for Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., after he featured her in a campaign ad: ā€œWhy are you so obsessed with me and Drag Story Hour?ā€

Lil Miss Hot Mess, a drag performer who lives in Arizona and performs in Los Angeles, said a friend messaged her on Sept. 28 telling her that they saw her in one of Rubio’s campaign ads while watching the Weather Channel in Florida.

Democrat Val Demings, once an underdog in the Florida race for the U.S. Senate, is closing in on incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio, putting into play a seat that Republicans once considered relatively safe as they battle for the majority.

Polls put Mrs. Demings, who represents the state’s 10th Congressional District, within 3 percentage points of Mr. Rubio, a Republican running for a third term. The race is starting to look like a toss-up.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio is releasing his first Spanish-language ad of the 2022 election cycle.

The 30-second spot focuses on the Senator’s response when Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico and his role in crafting the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will run on television in the Orlando area, according to the Rubio campaign.
