The Washington Post this week backed out of a ā€œFire Elon Muskā€ advertising order that was to run as a wrap on some of its Tuesday editions, according to the advocacy group Common Cause.

The group said it signed a $115,000 agreement with The Post to run the ad that would have covered the front and back page of the Tuesday paper as well as a full-page ad with the same theme inside the paper. It said it planned to purchase the ad in collaboration with the Southern Poverty Law Center Action Fund.

This year’s Super Bowl commercials went for easy laughs and nostalgia, largely steering clear of controversy and leaving the surprises on the football field, where the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs.

Eugene Levy’s eyebrows flew off and buzzed around after he ate some Little Caesars. Four old ladies went on a joy ride in a commercial for WeatherTech, while sloths had a case of the Mondays in an ad for Coors Light. And British singer Seal became an actual seal, sad that he couldn’t hold Mountain Dew with his flippers.

Ben Affleck's 2025 Super Bowl commercial return received mixed reviews.

British singer Seal and "Fast & Furious" star Vin Diesel also received varied responses to their respective Super Bowl ads.

For his part, Affleck brought back the DunKings for Super Bowl LIX, but he was missing Matt Damon and Tom Brady. Instead, Affleck was joined by his brother, Casey Affleck, and former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.

Just earlier this week, Elon Musk's X announced that it was suing the constituent members of an initiative known as the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM).

On Thursday, just days after X's federal antitrust lawsuit was filed, the organization behind GARM, the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), announced that it was dissolving GARM. The WFA and several corporations were the suit's named defendants, not GARM itself.

A major ad industry group is shutting down, days after Elon Musk-owned X filed a lawsuit that claimed the group illegally conspired to boycott advertising on his platform.

ā€œGARM is a small, not-for-profit initiative, and recent allegations that unfortunately misconstrue its purpose and activities have caused a distraction and significantly drained its resources and finances,ā€ the group said in a statement Friday. ā€œGARM therefore is making the difficult decision to discontinue its activities.ā€

A global advertising association said it is suspending the operations of a unit focused on brand safety two days after Elon Musk’s social media company, X, sued the group, alleging it organized an illegal ad boycott.

The World Federation of Advertisers, or WFA, confirmed Thursday that it would halt its nonprofit initiative Global Alliance for Responsible Media. GARM was started in 2019 in part to help advertisers avoid having their promotions show up alongside content they deem harmful.

Business Insider first reported that GARM was being shuttered.

Elon Musk’s X sued a coalition of advertisers leading a boycott against the social platform, accusing the group of conspiring to ā€œcollectively withhold billions of dollars in advertising revenue.ā€

The suit takes aim at the World Federation of Advertisers and its initiative called the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), which led a boycott against the platform formerly known as Twitter after it was acquired by Musk in 2022.

Elon Muskā€˜s social media platform X filed an antitrust lawsuit against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, accusing the international advertising group of illegally boycotting companies, including the video-sharing site Rumble and other platforms. X Corp. CEO Linda Yaccarino posted a video Tuesday announcing X, formerly known as Twitter, filed a lawsuit against GARM, World Federation Advertisers, and top members of GARM such as Mars, CVS Health, Unilever, and Orsted.
