The Trump administration rolled out a revamped COVID.gov website Friday showing the "true origins" of the coronavirus, while admonishing Democrats and the media for discrediting the theory that the virus leaked from a lab and alternative health treatments, and for imposing strict mandates. 

The Trump administration has doubled down on the lab-leak theory of COVID-19's origins, publishing an in-depth statement Friday accusing public health officials and intelligence agencies of suppressing the theory for political purposes.

Christine Grady, a top bioethicist at the National Institutes of Health and the wife of former top NIH official Anthony Fauci, was among the health bureaucrats who received a layoff notice on Tuesday, according to news reports.

Former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci, America’s foremost public-health official during the coronavirus pandemic, admitted in a recent interview that school closures went on for too long.

“Shutting down everything immediately — and we didn’t shut it down completely — but essentially major social distancing and even schools was the right thing,” Fauci told CBS during an interview to promote his new memoir. Fauci worked in the federal government for decades and at one point was the highest paid federal employee.

Dr. Anthony Fauci backtracked his support Tuesday for a COVID-19 mitigation method which closed down schools throughout the country, calling the strategy a “mistake.”

Fauci helped lead the nation's initial response to COVID-19 as part of the Trump administration. In an interview with CBS Mornings this week, the former National Institute of Allergy and Infections Diseases (NIAID) director explained school closures were necessary at the very beginning of the pandemic.

Dr. Anthony Fauci is reflecting on some of the actions taken in response to the COVID pandemic, including school closures, which have led to a learning loss across the country. 

The initial closure was not a mistake, he said Tuesday on "CBS Mornings," but questions the length schools were kept shut. 

“As director of NIH, you did sign off on these so-called scientific experiments. And as a dog lover, I want to tell you this is disgusting and evil. What you signed off on and these experiments that happened to beagles paid for by the American taxpayer. And I want you to know Americans don’t pay their taxes for animals to be tortured like this.”

House Republicans say they aren’t finished with Anthony Fauci.

Emboldened by newly uncovered emails showing attempts by top aides to evade public record laws and lingering anger over coronavirus mitigation efforts, Republicans say they want to bring criminal charges against the nation’s former top infectious diseases official.  

Old conspiracy theories never die. They just fade into the congressional record.
