A Portland man on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in a St. John Street shooting that still has more questions than answers. Abdirahman Mahmoud, 36, is accused of killing 30-year-old Raoul Tshiyuka, whom police said they found shot early in the morning March 2. Mahmoud’s appearance at Cumberland County Superior Court was brief, just long enough for him to deny responsibility for ā€œintentionally or knowinglyā€ causing Tshiyuka’s death. He is being held without bail. It remains unclear how police identified Mahmoud as a suspect. SWAT teams searched...

Tambaoga was released the following day after posting a $20,000 bond. He was arrested a several days later after a second person reported being sexually assaulted by him, according to police. Powerful tornadoes and storms swept through southwestern Michigan Tuesday evening, destroying or damaging homes and businesses and injuring several residents – and millions more from northeast Texas to the Carolinas face at least a slight risk of severe weather Wednesday. At least a dozen people were injured at a mobile home park in Pavilion Township following a tornado Tuesday, according to a county official. The township is located in Kalamazoo County, where 15 to 20 people had minor injuries and were transported to two area hospitals, according to the county’s...

A light rain quickly turned into a hard pour as the skies opened while Michael Busch stood on deck. Busch heard Chicago Cubs fans start to get amped up while preparing to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning against San Diego Padres right-hander Enyel De Los Santos. As De Los Santos delivered an elevated 93.7 mph fastball to Busch, lightning lit up the sky above Wrigley Field. Within a flash, Busch unleashed a perfectly timed swing to send a 108 mph rocket to the right field bleachers for...

ATLANTA — It was just a matter of time before Red Sox rookie Justin Slaten suffered real adversity in his first major league season. A blip on the radar was more of an eventuality than a possibility. In the eighth inning Tuesday night in Atlanta, it came. Slaten, who had allowed just two earned runs in the first 19 innings of his major league career, took the loss in Boston’s 4-2 defeat after allowing two runs on three hits as Atlanta broke a 2-2 tie and took a late victory...

May 8 - Marcel Ozuna lined a single up the middle to score the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Atlanta Braves beat the visiting Boston Red Sox 4-2 on Tuesday to end a three-game losing streak. The Braves, who had scored only 20 runs over their previous eight games, added an insurance run in the eighth on Orlando Arcia's infield grounder. The winning pitcher was Joe Jimenez (1-0), who pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect ninth to earn his ninth save. Justin Slaten...

Boston had plenty of chances before the game came to that, but could not deliver the big hit. The Sox went 1 for 14 with runners in scoring position, stranding 13 despite getting their biggest hitters up in the biggest spots. Both Rafael Devers and Tyler O’Neill went 0 for 3 in their chances. ATLANTA — Justin Slaten has been stellar out of the Red Sox bullpen this season, allowing just two runs in his first 19 innings. The meat of the Atlanta order, however, got to him for that...
