McHENRY, Ill. (CBS) -- The McHenry County Sheriff's office continued to search Friday for a missing dog involved in a series of attacks. The sheriff's office said it was called at 5:50 p.m. Thursday to break up a dog fight at Haumann Drive and Stilling Boulevard in McHenry Township, just outside the city of McHenry. The owner reported she had not been able to separate her dogs, who had been in a fight, and she had gotten bitten. A neighbor who volunteered to help also got bitten, according to the...

Twenty-four Israeli soldiers were killed during intense fighting in Gaza on Monday, marking the Israel Defense Forces’s bloodiest day since the war began.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an Israeli military spokesman, told reporters on Tuesday that 21 troops were killed in an explosion after Hamas terrorists fired rocket-propelled grenades at a tank.

He said a second explosion occurred at the same time in two buildings where forces had planted explosives in order to destroy them. The buildings collapsed onto nearby troops.

Twenty-one Israeli soldiers were killed Monday when they came under attack in the southern Gaza Strip, triggering a blast that collapsed two buildings with soldiers inside them, the military said Tuesday morning.

The buildings were being rigged for demolition by troops when Palestinian gunmen fired an RPG at a tank securing the forces. A second blast then occurred in the buildings, possibly as a result of a second RPG, leading to their collapse.

Israel's military said on Tuesday that at least 21 of its soldiers were killed in a single attack in the Gaza Strip, the deadliest day for Israeli troops since 7 October.

Military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the soldiers were killed in central Gaza on Monday when a rocket-propelled grenade fired by Hamas hit a tank near two buildings the soldiers were in.

At least 24 civilians across Ukraine were killed and at least 130 people were injured when Russian forces launched their largest aerial attack Friday morning, hitting six cities between Lviv in the west and Kharkiv in the east.

An unknown number of civilians remain trapped under the rubble after missiles struck shopping centers, apartment complexes, schools, and even a maternity ward.

Photos and videos posted online showed streets covered in ash and debris from the attacks, as buildings burned.

Russia unleashed its biggest air attack of the war on Ukraine on Friday, killing 31 civilians, wounding more than 160 others and hitting cities and infrastructure across the country, officials said.

NATO member Poland said a Russian missile appeared to have flown into its airspace for some 40 km before returning to Ukraine under three minutes later.

But the Russian charge d'affaires, summoned to the Polish Foreign Ministry, said Warsaw had provided no evidence of a missile entering its airspace.

Russia launched 122 missiles and dozens of drones against Ukrainian targets, officials said Friday, killing at least 30 civilians across the country in what an air force official called the biggest aerial barrage of the war.

At least 144 people were wounded and an unknown number were buried under rubble during the roughly 18-hour onslaught, Ukrainian officials said. A maternity hospital, apartment blocks and schools were among the buildings reported damaged across Ukraine.

A German tourist was killed and two others were injured near the Eiffel Tower by an attacker who reportedly shouted ā€œAllahu Akbarā€ (ā€œGod is greatā€) before being arrested on Saturday night.

France’s Interior Minister, GĆ©rald Darmanin, said the male suspect, a 26-year-old Paris native, was on French security services’ watch list and was also known for psychiatric disorders.

After his arrest on Saturday night, he expressed anguish about Muslims being killed in Palestine and claimed that France was an accomplice, Mr Darmanin said.

A man has died and two others, including a British man, have been injured in a knife and hammer attack on a street in central Paris.

The attack occurred near the Eiffel Tower shortly before 21:00 local time (20:00 GMT) on Saturday.

A 26-year-old French national known to security services has been arrested and anti-terrorism prosecutors have opened an investigation.

Officials confirmed that the man killed was a German national.
