A man who had served a prison sentence for planning a radical Islamist attack and who was undergoing psychiatric treatment allegedly stabbed a German tourist to death and wounded two others – one British, one French – in a neighbourhood near Paris’s Eiffel tower on Saturday night.

The attack took place shortly after 9pm near the Bir Hakeim bridge in an area popular with tourists. France is on its highest alert for attacks against the background of the war between Israel and Hamas.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr condemned a deadly bombing on Sunday, blaming ā€œforeign terrorists,ā€ as police and the military strengthened security in the country’s south and around the capital Manila.

At least four people were killed and at least 50 injured after a bomb exploded during a morning Catholic Mass in a university gymnasium in Marawi, a city in the south of the country besieged by Islamist militants for five months in 2017.

Ukraine's domestic spy agency has detonated explosives on a Russian railway line deep in Siberia, the second attack this week on military supply routes in the area, a Ukrainian source told Reuters on Friday.

The incidents appear to show Kyiv's readiness and ability to conduct sabotage attacks deep inside Russia and disrupt Russian logistics far from the front lines of Moscow's 21-month-old war in Ukraine.

Israel’s military announced a ā€œstate of war alertā€ on Saturday after militants from Gaza fired a deadly barrage of rockets and sent gunmen into Israeli territory in a major escalation of the long running conflict between the two sides.

The early morning rocket attack, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described as ā€œmassiveā€, left at least one person dead and multiple wounded.

Hamas, the Palestinian militant movement that runs Gaza, claimed responsibility for the rocket attack and called for a general uprising against Israel.

Recent criticisms of them are rooted in double standards

The U.S. Supreme Court is under attack. This assault aims to destroy one of the pillars of our constitutional order: an independent judiciary, appointed and confirmed by the political branches but thereafter answerable only to the process of impeachment and to its own oath to apply the Constitution and written laws. Judicial independence, as Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 78, is essential to ensuring the federal courts’ ā€œinflexible and uniform adherence to the rights of the Constitution.ā€

At least six people were injured in an unprovoked attack by a suspect carrying a "bladed weapon" at the busy Gare du Nord train station in Paris Wednesday.

At least one police officer was attacked along with five civilians before shots were heard during morning rush hour. The suspect was apprehended.
