Vice President JD Vance expressed confidence Friday that a deal to sell TikTok and keep the social media app running in the U.S. would largely be in place by an April deadline.

ā€œThere will almost certainly be a high-level agreement that I think satisfies our national security concerns, allows there to be a distinct American TikTok enterprise,ā€ Vance, whom President Donald Trump has asked to help broker the deal, said in an interview with NBC News aboard Air Force Two...

The Trump administration is working on a plan to save TikTok that involves tapping software company Oracle and a group of outside investors to effectively take control of the app's global operations, according to two people with direct knowledge of the talks.

Under the deal now being negotiated by the White House, TikTok's China-based owner ByteDance would retain a minority stake in the company, but the app's algorithm, data collection and software updates will be overseen by Oracle, which already provides the foundation of TikTok's web infrastructure.

Senator Ed Markey is fighting to stop a potential TikTok ban in the United States.

On Monday, the Massachusetts Democrat introduced the Extend the TikTok Deadline Act, aiming to prevent the platform’s shutdown, which could disrupt the lives of 170 million American users.

Markey warns that the ā€œstakes are high,ā€ as a sudden ban would upend a "one-of-a-kind informational and cultural ecosystem.ā€ He has proposed extending the deadline by 270 days.

Frank McCourt, the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2004 to 2012, announced that he is organizing a bid to buy the popular social media platform TikTok.

China-brd parent company ByteDance is facing a possible U.S. ban if it fails to sell the website within the next year after President Joe Biden signed legislation mandating the firm sell the platform or be prohibited in the United States. The entity will have until January 2025 to locate a buyer, though company leaders say they do not intend to sell.

Mr. McCourt is making plans anyway.

TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, said it will not sell the popular video sharing app to continue its business in the U.S., despite facing a potential ban under a law President Biden signed Wednesday.

The bill, included in a foreign aid package Biden signed, gives ByteDance up to a year to sell TikTok or be banned from operating in the U.S. The proposal was fueled by national security concerns raised by the supporters, who argued the Chinese government could compel TikTok to share U.S. user data.

TikTok sued the federal government on Tuesday over a new law that would force its Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell the popular social media app or face a ban in the United States, stoking a battle over national security and free speech that is likely to end up in the Supreme Court.

TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, filed a federal lawsuit on Tuesday seeking to block the newly passed law that would ban the popular social media app in the U.S. unless its Chinese owner sells it.

The suit, filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, argues the law is a violation of Americans' First Amendment right to free speech. It also claims the provision that requires ByteDance to divest its ownership of TikTok's U.S. operation within nine months is not "commercially, technologically, or legally feasible."
