FBI Director Christopher Wray on Thursday will warn of an "elevated threat" to U.S. public safety and national security while advocating for an increased budget.

"Looking back over my career in law enforcement, I’d be hard-pressed to think of a time where so many threats to our public safety and national security were so elevated all at once," Wray will say to the House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on Thursday afternoon. "But that is the case as I sit here today. This is not a point when we can let up."

The FBI is concerned about the possibility of an organized attack in the United States similar to the one that killed scores at a Russian concert hall last month, the bureau's director plans to tell a House of Representatives panel on Thursday.

ā€œLooking back over my career in law enforcement, I’d be hard pressed to think of a time where so many threats to our public safety and national security were so elevated all at once,ā€ Christopher Wray is set to tell lawmakers during a budget hearing. ā€œBut that is the case as I sit here today.ā€

FBI Director Christopher Wray has warned that known or suspected terrorists who use fake identification after crossing the southern border is "a big concern" for the national intelligence community.

Wray made the remarks Tuesday in front of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as part of its 2024 Annual Threat Assessment hearing with the U.S. intelligence community.

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday warned that Chinese hackers are preparing to ā€œwreak havoc and cause real-world harmā€ to the US.

ā€œChina’s hackers are positioning on American infrastructure in preparation to wreak havoc and cause real-world harm to American citizens and communities, if or when China decides the time has come to strike,ā€ Wray told the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.

FBI Director Christopher Wray told agency staffers that he was concerned about ā€œa potential conflict of interestā€ involving the selection of the bureau’s new headquarters in Maryland, according to an email obtained by NBC News.

On Thursday, the General Services Administration confirmed that the FBI’s new home would be in Greenbelt, about 13 miles northeast of Washington, seeming to bring to an end a drawn-out and politically fraught site selection process. Two other finalists were Springfield, Virginia, and Landover, Maryland.

Christopher A. Wray, the F.B.I. director, warned senators on Tuesday that the violence between Israel and Hamas has raised the potential for an attack against Americans in the United States to ā€œa whole other level.ā€

ā€œWe assess that the actions of Hamas and its allies will serve as an inspiration the likes of which we haven’t seen since ISIS launched its so-called caliphate several years ago,ā€ Mr. Wray said, referring to the Islamic State.

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Tuesday said that the FBI has "multiple ongoing investigations into individuals affiliated with [Hamas]" during congressional testimony, indicating that the FBI warns that Hamas terrorists could be inspired by the Hamas attacks in Israel.

"We cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or another foreign terrorist organization may exploit the current conflict to conduct attacks here on our own soil," Wray said during a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing.
