When ATF agents knocked on the apartment door of the suspect accused of shooting three Palestinian college students — two of them U.S. citizens — in Burlington, Vermont, over the weekend, he held out his empty palms at his waist and responded, "I've been waiting for you," authorities said.

But when agents of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives asked him why, Jason James Eaton replied that he wanted a lawyer and advised he had a gun in the apartment, Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad said of the initial interaction on Sunday afternoon.

Former President Jimmy Carter, who is 99 and in hospice care, is expected to attend a tribute service at a church in Atlanta on Tuesday for his late wife Rosalynn Carter, who died at age 96 on Nov. 19, his office said on Monday.

The body of the former U.S. first lady will lie in repose on Monday, giving Americans the chance to pay their respects to the woman her husband called "an extension of myself."

One person died and 10 others were hospitalized from an outbreak of listeria that has been tied to whole peaches, nectarines and plums, federal health officials said.

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a food safety alert that 11 people across seven states had been affected by the outbreak strain of listeria linked to HMC Group Marketing, Inc., which does business as HMC Farms.

The death occurred in California, CDC data showed.

Three people were killed and another was wounded after a gunman opened fire in southern Colorado over an alleged property dispute on Monday, authorities said. The suspect was arrested on Tuesday in New Mexico.

Hanme K. Clark, 45, was taken into custody by New Mexico Police just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, KOAA-TV reported. Details about his arrest are unclear, but the Custer County Sheriff’s Office posted an update on its Facebook page.

A shooter killed one person in the lobby of New Hampshire’s state psychiatric hospital on Friday before being fatally shot by a state trooper, officials said.

As Adam Johnson’s loved ones continue to pick up the pieces following his tragic death last month, new details have come to light about the future the former NHL player envisioned with his longtime girlfriend, Ryan Wolfe.

A Colorado hiker who went missing in August has been found dead, along with the man’s dog, alive at his side.

Pagosa Springs resident Rich Moore had been missing since Aug. 19, when the 71-year-old failed to return from a planned summit of Blackhead Peak.

The 12,500-foot mountain sits in a rugged corner of the San Juan mountains in the southwestern corner of the state, east of Pagosa Springs.

A hunter in the area stumbled across Moore’s remains on Oct. 30 and alerted the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office, noting a white Jack Russell terrier was with him.

At least three people were killed and 15 others injured Tuesday after a charter bus carrying students from a high school was rear-ended by a semi-truck on an Ohio highway, according to an emergency official.

The charter bus was transporting students and chaperones from Tuscarawas Valley High School, in Tuscarawas County, Licking County Emergency Management Agency Director Sean Grady confirmed to NewsNation. There were a total of 57 people onboard.

Police in England arrested a man Tuesday on suspicion of manslaughter in the death of American ice hockey player Adam Johnson, whose neck was cut by a skate during a game.

Johnson, 29, was playing for the Nottingham Panthers against the Sheffield Steelers on Oct. 28 when he was struck by an opponent’s skate blade in the Elite Ice Hockey League game at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.

South Yorkshire Police did not name the suspect or provide his age. He was in police custody.
