Deaths linked to excessive drinking surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The study in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report found that the average annual number of deaths from “excessive alcohol use” rose by around 30 percent from 2016-2017 to 2020-2021. In the same period, the average annual number of deaths from “excessive alcohol use” rose by around 27 percent for men and 35 percent for women.

A DNA sample taken from the estranged wife of alleged serial killer Rex Heuermann matches genetic material found on the remains of three Long Island victims, ABC News reports.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has not confirmed the report, but if verified, it would be another bombshell in the case allegedly revealed by DNA.

Prosecutors had sought the death penalty for Jung Yoo-jung, 23, but she begged the court for leniency, claiming that she suffered from hallucinations and a host of mental health issues, reported BBC News.

Berkshire Hathaway announced the passing of Charlie Munger, the billionaire and vice chairman of the company, as well as longtime partner of Warren Buffett.

According to the press release, Munger, who was 99 at the time of his passing, died Tuesday morning.

"Berkshire Hathaway a few minutes ago was advised by members of Charlie Munger’s family that he peacefully died this morning at a California hospital," the company said in a press release.

Munger would have turned 100 on New Year’s Day.

Legendary reporter Pablo Guzman, whose voice was carried over Big Apple airwaves for decades, has died, CBS New York announced Monday. He was 73. 

Guzman died Sunday morning after decades of covering crime, politics, and the historic evolution of the city over the past 30-plus years. He most recently worked as a senior correspondent for CBS.

He worked at WNEW-TV Channel 5 starting in 1984 before he moved to WNBC in 1992. He then made the move to CBS 2 a few years later where he stayed for about 16 years.
