President Donald Trump sent a memorandum to four federal department heads Friday night instructing them to allow the military to use and take jurisdiction of federal land along the US-Mexico border.

The newest effort from the Trump administration to secure the southern border includes authorizing the military to take control of public land along the border.

“The complexity of the current situation requires that our military take a more direct role in securing our southern border than in the recent past,” a White House memorandum said.

The U.S. military will take control of a strip of federal land that spans three states along the southern border in an effort to stem illegal immigration, a memorandum Friday by President Donald Trump said. 

U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, who holds a senior position in NATO, has been fired as part of what appears to be an expanding national security purge of top officials by the Trump administration, three sources told Reuters on Monday.

The information was not immediately confirmed by the Pentagon. However, the sources told Reuters that allies had been notified that Chatfield had been removed from her job.

Several federal agencies have advised employees not to respond to Elon Musk’s email demanding federal workers list five accomplishments from the past week or risk losing their jobs.

The email instructs federal workers to respond to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) by 11:59 p.m. EST Monday. But a growing list of agencies, including the Pentagon, FBI, State Department and intelligence community, on Sunday had told their employees to hold off.

One America News Network would soon replace NBC News and Breitbart would swap with National Public Radio in coveted Pentagon press corps workspace under a plan shared with journalists Friday night.

In what the Pentagon is calling a new “annual media rotation program,” The New York Post will also be invited to move into The New York Times’ workspace. And a fourth outlet affected by the rotation program, Politico, would be replaced by HuffPost.

Several major media companies were told they would need to vacate their office spaces at the Pentagon, in favor of other outlets. Pentagon officials told the news agencies on Friday night. 

NBC News, The New York Times, National Public Radio and Politico must vacate their dedicated workspaces. The organizations learned about the new directive in a memo sent to the press corps without being individually notified, according to NBC News. The Pentagon released an email saying in part, “no additional information will be provided at this time.”

The Trump Pentagon under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a massive overhaul of its practice allowing journalists to work from inside the building is beginning a program to remove four establishment media news outlets from their workspaces for one year to replace them with new media outlets, including Breitbart News.
