Saudi Arabia is preparing to open its first alcohol store in the capital Riyadh which will serve exclusively non-Muslim diplomats, according to a source familiar with the plans and a document.

Customers will have to register via a mobile app, get a clearance code from the foreign ministry, and respect monthly quotas with their purchases, said the document, which was seen by Reuters.

Relatives of Israelis being held hostage in Gaza by Hamas have stormed a parliamentary committee session in Jerusalem, demanding lawmakers do more to free their loved ones.

The action by a group of around 20 relatives on Monday illustrated the growing anger over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to agree to a deal with the Palestinian group as the Gaza war grinds through a fourth month.

A group of hostages’ families and protesters blocked off traffic outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence on Azza Street in Jerusalem on Sunday evening, demanding the government reach a deal to ensure the return of the remaining hostages in Hamas captivity.

Organized by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, the demonstration walked a fine line, attempting to hold the government accountable for the lives of the hostages while avoiding forthright condemnation.

Relatives of the remaining hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip rallied outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private home Saturday to demand a deal that would bring them home.

“Do you know where your child slept last night?” Shelly Shem-Tov, whose son 21-year-old Omer, is among the hostages, begged the crowd outside Netanyahu’s Caesarea home, the Times of Israel reported.

“Can you call your child right now and ask how he is? For 105 days, I haven’t known where my child is,” the desperate mother cried.

Azerbaijan's foreign ministry said on Thursday it could not take part in a meeting with Armenia's foreign minister planned for Nov. 20 in Washington because of the "one-sided approach of the United States".

It said senior U.S. officials were unwelcome in Baku for the same reason.

Meanwhile, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he intended to intensify political and diplomatic efforts to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, Russia's TASS news agency reported on Thursday.

President Biden said the U.S. and China made "important progress" on Wednesday after he met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the APEC summit in San Francisco.

Why it matters: It was the first meeting between the two leaders in a year. Prior to the meeting, Biden said the U.S. wanted to improve bilateral relations that have spiraled downward due to fiercely disputed issues including Taiwan, maritime disputes, cybersecurity and espionage, sanctions, and human rights violations.

President Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping neared modest agreements on restoring military contacts and combating fentanyl trafficking during a summit aimed at steadying relations between the world’s two leading powers.

After the two leaders sat down for little more than two hours at a wooded Northern California estate on Wednesday, Biden said in a tweet that the two leaders had “made real progress.”

While the summit helped moderate the often bitter tone in U.S.-China relations, it did little to resolve the deep frictions tearing at the countries.

President Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping each underscored the need for communications between the two nuclear superpowers at their meeting on Wednesday, which was the first time they’ve spoken in over a year.

Mr. Biden and Mr. Xi emphasized that the two nations need to keep lines of dialogue open to avoid tipping into conflict.

“We have to ensure that competition does not veer into conflict and we also have to manage it responsibly, competition,” Mr. Biden said, adding that he’s found previous talks with Mr. Xi to be “candid, straightforward and useful.”

Qatari mediators on Wednesday sought to negotiate a deal between Hamas and Israel that included the release of around 50 civilian hostages from Gaza in exchange for a three-day ceasefire, an official briefed on the negotiations told Reuters.
