Mayor Adams padded the city payroll with 293 ā€œspecial assistantsā€ during his first full fiscal year in office — a more than 20% increase over his predecessor Bill de Blasio, The Post has learned.

The bloated band of vaguely titled aides, accountable only to Adams, comprised roughly one-third of the Mayor’s Office staff during the yearly period ending June 30 and cost taxpayers $24.3 million, according to payroll records.

Eighty-five pocketed six-figure earnings in fiscal 2023 – including 13 who took in more than $200,000.

New York City lawmakers passed legislation Dec. 20 that will ban solitary confinement in the city’s jails. Introduced by New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, the bill puts a 4-hour limit on isolating inmates when there is an immediate threat or a high risk of violence to themselves or others in ā€œde-escalationā€ units. Only inmates involved in violent acts should be placed in confinement for longer periods of time, but they would need to be out of their cells for 14 hours a day in order to receive the...

New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams generated controversy this week during an interview with a local television station when he said that one of the things that makes New York City the ā€œgreatest city on the globeā€ is the possibility people could experience a terrorist attack there. The moment happened during an interview with host Dan Mannarino on WPIX-TV’s ā€œPIX on Politicsā€ when Adams was asked to describe 2023 in one word. ā€œMr. Mayor, we’ve come to the end of what was a very eventful 2023,ā€ Mannarino said. ā€œSo...
