A Wisconsin federal judge has shot down bids by Kyle Rittenhouse and local law enforcement to toss out a wrongful death lawsuit by the family of slain Kenosha protester Anthony Huber.

Huber’s father, John Huber, filed suit in 2021, claiming Rittenhouse, 20, conspired with law enforcement to harm protesters during major unrest in Kenosha on Aug. 25, 2020.

The suit also names the Kenosha police, sheriff’s departments and local government, who had attempted, along with Rittenhouse, to get the case thrown out.

A federal court Wednesday approved Minneapolis, Minnesota’s agreement to pay 12 protesters a combined $600,000 for injuries sustained during 2020 demonstrations over George Floyd’s murder.

Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of murder charges in Kenosha one year ago, but that hasn’t kept him from being called a murderer on social media.

The former Antioch resident has vowed to sue celebrities and media figures who have used such language to describe him, but his attorney, Todd McMurtry, told the Tribune a larger goal is to change the discourse about Rittenhouse.

The CNN journalist best known for reporting from the burning scene of "fiery but mostly peaceful protests" following the justified non-fatal police shooting of armed sexual-assault suspect Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis., has been nominated for an Emmy award.

Violent crime in Portland, Oregon, has drastically risen over the last three years, most precipitously in 2020, when the city saw near-nightly protests and riots over the death of George Floyd. 

"This report confirms the unfortunate reality of what we already knew – that gun violence is on the rise in Portland and that it is being driven by a very small percentage of our population," Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said in a statement Saturday following the release of the crime data. 

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear an appeal from the St. Louis, Missouri, couple who could have their law licenses indefinitely suspended after pointing guns at protestors near their home in 2020, Axios reports.

The former Minneapolis Police officer who held down George Floyd's legs during his fatal restraint pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter Wednesday as part of a plea deal, attorneys said.

Thomas Lane, 39, was one of three former officers to face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter and aiding and abetting second-degree unintentional murder related to Floyd's death in May 2020.

Mark T. Esper, who served Donald Trump as defense secretary, alleges in a new book that he witnessed the former president in the Oval Office suggesting that members of the military should shoot protesters “in the legs or something.” Esper suggests others were present during that meeting.

Trump denies it. He says those witnesses present would back him up.

As it turns out, this is something that Congress might investigate and try to settle, one way or the other. Will Democrats act?
