Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) said he met with President Biden to convey the worries of Democrats about their standard-bearer as calls for the president to leave the race continued.

In a letter to colleagues, Jeffries said he “directly expressed the full breadth of insight, heartfelt perspectives and conclusions about the path forward that the Caucus has shared in our recent time together.” He didn’t give any indications of what perspectives he provided in their private meeting Thursday or whether he encouraged Biden to stay or leave. 

Sunday morning, Hakeem Jeffries went to church back home in Brooklyn. Shortly after, he tweeted a verse from the Book of Joshua: “Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your god will be with you wherever you go.”

That’s from right after the passage where Moses dies of old age, and a new, younger leader takes his people into the Promised Land.

This was a coincidence, people familiar say. He just likes the verse. Didn’t mean to imply anything by the context.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries‘s (D-NY) spokeswoman mocked Justice Democrats’ attempt to pin Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s (D-NY) primary loss on him.

Bowman lost to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, who campaigned as a contrast to Bowman’s stance on Israel and the congressman’s antics in the House of Representatives. Justice Democrats, a hard-left group that supported Bowman, attempted to blame the House’s Democratic leader — Jeffries.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has fanned the flames of the internal Democratic battle over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coming speech to Congress, questioning the wisdom of the invitation just days after it was endorsed by Democratic leaders in both chambers.

U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday warned that the threat of antisemitism is growing, in remarks honoring the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust, as his support for Israel's assault on Gaza divides his Democratic Party.

"Never again simply translated for me means: Never forget. Never forgetting means we must keep telling the story, we must keep teaching the truth," Biden said as he addressed a bipartisan memorial held at the U.S. Capitol's Emancipation Hall. "The truth is we're at risk of people not knowing the truth."

President Biden said Tuesday that the hatred of Jews "continues to lie deep in the hearts of too many people in the world" while delivering the keynote address at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum's annual Days of Remembrance ceremony.

The president spoke in Washington, D.C. as anti-Israel protests have been disrupting college campuses around the country. 

"That hatred is brought to life on October 7th, in 2023, on a sacred Jewish holiday," Biden said. "The terrorist group Hamas unleashed the deadliest day of the Jewish people since the Holocaust."

The remarks are part of a U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum ceremony marking the Days of Remembrance to honor the memory of the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust as well as other victims of Nazi persecution.

House Democrats hinted Thursday that they were committed to passing a foreign aid supplemental package even if it meant helping Republican leaders get past usually party-line procedural hurdles — and potentially helping a GOP speaker keep his gavel.
