When I took office in 2001, the situation with HIV/AIDS on the African continent and elsewhere was dire. A group of advisers including Condi Rice, Josh Bolten and Mike Gerson encouraged me to act before an entire generation was lost.

I believe that every life has dignity and value. I also believe that of those to whom much is given, much is required. So we developed a plan with clear objectives and accountability, and we got to work.

Why would a bio-lab run by a shady Chinese company be operating in Reedley, CA in the central San Joaquin Valley?

What was supposed to be an empty building used only for storage was home to a black-market type of lab testing facility.

YourCentralValley.com reports that the discovery was made after a local code enforcement officer noticed this garden hose poking out a back wall of the building.

The Food and Drug Administration has dropped all restrictions specific to gay and bisexual men donating blood, a move long anticipated by public health experts and gay rights activists.

The new guidance, first proposed in January and finalized Thursday, will not restrict donations based on someone's sexual orientation or gender identity, and instead move towards an "individual risk-based" approach to reduce the risk of accidental HIV infection through the blood donation system.

A German man has become the third person ever to be effectively ā€œcuredā€ of HIV thanks to a stem cell transplant 10 years ago.

His breakthrough case was first announced in 2019, but it wasn’t until Monday that researchers confirmed he was indeed HIV-free.

ā€œWe don’t think there’s a functional virus present,ā€ Dr. Bjƶrn Jensen, the study author and division head of infectious diseases at Düsseldorf University Hospital in Germany, told New Scientist.

Ukraine, in addition to a war with Russia, also faces an HIV epidemic. As of 2021, an estimated 240,000 Ukrainians are HIV-positive, 100,000 of them living in regions now impacted by fighting. The country also has one of the world’s highest rates of tuberculosis (TB), a respiratory infection that, prior to COVID-19, killed more people worldwide than any other infectious disease. TB and HIV share comorbidities, and TB is one of the most likely causes of death for a person living with HIV.

A 66-year-old man in Southern California and a woman in her 70s in Spain are the latest in a small group of people who appear to have beaten their HIV infections, providing researchers new clues to a possible cure at a time when Covid-19 and other crises are slowing progress against the spreading virus.

The most famous scientist in America is facing retirement.

After more than five decades of federal service under seven presidents, Anthony Fauci says he’s leaving by the end of President Joe Biden’s term. In a wide-ranging interview with POLITICO, he spoke of his legacy, the hard truths about the country’s pandemic response and his desire to calm the politicization wracking the country.

Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical adviser, said on Monday that he plans to retire by the end of Biden’s term in office.

ā€œBy the time we get to the end of the Biden administration term, I feel it would be time for me to step down from this position,ā€ Fauci told the Washington Post Monday.

Politico was first to report on Fauci’s plans.

ā€œWe’re in a pattern now. If somebody says, ā€˜You’ll leave when we don’t have COVID anymore,’ then I will be 105,ā€ Fauci told Politico. ā€œI think we’re going to be living with this.ā€
