House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan on Monday announced who would be leading the subcommittees for the 119th Congress.

Jordan will remain the committee's chairman in the next Congress, while Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin will serve as the ranking member of the coveted committee. Raskin previously worked as the ranking member of House Oversight.

The House Judiciary Committee filed a lawsuit Monday seeking audio tapes of President Biden’s interviews with special counsel Robert Hur — after the White House refused to share them citing concern about the impact on the Nov. 5 election.

The committee filed suit four days after the 81-year-old incumbent’s disastrous debate performance prompted a groundswell of Democrats to question Biden’s cognitive fitness and call for the party to pick a new candidate to face former President Donald Trump.

The House Judiciary Committee advanced a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress over the Justice Department’s failure to produce the subpoenaed audio recording of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.

The House Judiciary Committee considered a resolution to hold the attorney general in contempt during a mark-up session Thursday. The vote advances the measure for a full floor vote.

The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday advanced a measure to hold in contempt Attorney General Merrick Garland in an 18-15 party line vote, a step Republicans on the House Oversight panel are also expected to take later this evening.

A last-minute move from President Biden to claim executive privilege over audio recordings from his interview with special counsel Robert Hur did not dissuade the GOP from proceeding, even as Garland said those asserting the privilege ā€œcannot be prosecuted for criminal contempt of Congress.ā€

Veteran investigative journalist Catherine Herridge testified before Congress Thursday, April 11, and discussed her firing from CBS News. She explained that she was let go on a Zoom call and locked out of her emails and office. Herridge said CBS then seized hundreds of her reporting files including confidential source information.

ā€œWhen the network of Walter Cronkite ceases your reporting files, including confidential source information, that is an attack on investigative journalism,ā€ Herridge said in a House Judiciary Committee hearing.
