Hunter Biden made a surprise appearance at a markup of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on Wednesday as the panel considers a resolution to hold the president’s son in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena last month.

Fireworks went off at the start of the markup when lawmakers recognized that Biden was in the hearing room. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) asked ā€œwho bribed Hunter Biden to be hereā€ and went after him for defying a subpoena.

House Republicans have prepared a resolution that would hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress after the first son, in a "criminal act," defied a congressional subpoena and as part of the House impeachment inquiry against President Biden.

Fox News Digital on Monday obtained the contempt resolution and accompanying report from the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees.

Instead, Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill to deliver a statement to the press, defying that subpoena, and said he would only testify in a public setting.

House Republicans filed a resolution Monday requesting that Hunter Biden be held in contempt of Congress for defying a ā€œcriticalā€ deposition request related to the GOP’s impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden.

The resolution, penned by Reps. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) of the Judiciary and Oversight committees, claimed the younger Biden showed ā€œflagrant defianceā€ when he skipped the committee’s deposition request to instead read a statement calling them liars.

The House Oversight Committee next week will hold a meeting to consider a resolution to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress after violating his congressional subpoenas.

The House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Hunter Biden for a closed-door deposition last month as part of the House Republican-led impeachment inquiry against President Biden.

Hunter Biden offered to testify in public only, and when denied, appeared on Capitol Hill to deliver a statement to the press, defying that subpoena.

House investigators are looking into whether President Biden encouraged his son Hunter Biden not to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry and defy a congressional subpoena to testify.

House Oversight Chair James Comer and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan sent a letter Wednesday to White House Counsel Edward Siskel requesting documents that could shed light on the issue.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote a demand letter to White House Counsel Edward Siskel to investigate whether President Joe Biden engaged ā€œin a conspiracy to obstruct a proceeding of Congressā€ with Hunter Biden, Breitbart News learned Wednesday.

Hunter defied a congressional subpoena to testify behind closed doors during a December 13 press conference.

Richard ā€œDickieā€ Scruggs, a famed Mississippi trial attorney, was tantalizingly close to a historic deal to force tobacco companies to pay billions of dollars — but there was one last hurdle. A divided Congress had to sign off. And Scruggs had identified one of the most skeptical senators, Joe Biden, as a key to winning the vote.

Scruggs turned to Biden’s younger brother James, an old acquaintance who ran a D.C. consulting firm with his wife, Sara.
