President Biden’s brother James was secretly recorded by the FBI during a bribery investigation into a Mississippi trial attorney who shelled out $100,000 to his consulting firm in the late 1990s, a report said on Sunday.

Richard Scruggs, the trial attorney, hired James and Sara Biden’s DC consulting firm while seeking to gin up support for tobacco legislation being contemplated by Congress in 1998, the Washington Post reported.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) secretly recorded conversations featuring President Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, as part of a bribery probe into a Mississippi attorney who once paid $100,000 to James Biden’s consulting firm, according to a new report.

The FBI taped James Biden during a bribery investigation of Mississippi trial attorney Richard Scruggs who paid James Biden’s Lion Hall group $100,000 in 1998 to help obtain his brother’s support for tobacco-related legislation under consideration by Congress, the Washington Post first reported Saturday.

Lawmakers made bipartisan calls on Tuesday for an inspector general investigation into the recent selection of Greenbelt, Maryland, as the site of the FBI's new multibillion-dollar headquarters, claiming the decision process had been tainted.

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) said during a House Oversight Committee hearing that he wanted the inspector general for the General Services Administration, the agency that led the selection process, to "look at this process and how it can be so contaminated as to skew the ultimate decision."

The White House’s defense of the $200,000 payment Joe Biden received from his brother James Biden is not backed up by the bank records possessed by the House Oversight Committee.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer wrote a letter to White House Counsel Edward Siskel requesting financial records to back up the White House’s claim that James Biden was paying off a loan from Joe Biden with the $200,000 check. Comer said in the letter the bank records do not indicate Joe Biden sent his brother a large loan that needed to be paid back.

Former President Trump gave Rep. Jim Jordan his "complete & total endorsement" for speaker of the House, saying he is "respected by all."

"Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio’s 4th Congressional District.," Trump posted on his TRUTH Social overnight. "Respected by all, he is now Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee."

Donald Trump is endorsing Congressman Jim Jordan to replace ousted U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the former president said on Friday, as the chamber's fractious Republicans try to unify in the aftermath of McCarthy's historic fall.

"He (Jordan) is STRONG on Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment. Jim, his wife, Polly, & family are outstanding - He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!" Trump said in a post on his Truth Social app.

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan’s bid for speaker of the House Friday.

In a post on Truth Social shortly after midnight, Trump said Jordan “will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!”

Trump’s intervention into the race came after he expressed openness to temporarily serving in the role himself and, per a source familiar with discussions, considered a visit to Capitol Hill to speak with Republicans in the coming days as they weigh a new speaker.

The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, chaired by Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., Tuesday issued subpoenas to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Secret Service on claims that DHS employees had blocked the Secret Service from providing information to Congress concerning the Justice Department's conduct in the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden.

GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa on Thursday released an internal FBI document containing unverified allegations President Joe Biden was involved in an illegal foreign bribery scheme.

The FBI had previously allowed members of the House Oversight Committee to privately view – but not obtain – the unclassified FBI document, known as an FD-1023.
