Carlyle Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Harvey Schwartz said inflation across the firm’s portfolio companies is showing that the economy remains resilient, making it too early to judge whether the US is headed toward a recession.

“We see the stickiness of inflation,” Schwartz said on Wednesday in an interview for an upcoming series for Bloomberg Originals, Bullish. “That’s actually a reflection of a strong economy, low unemployment.”

New Zealand’s annual inflation accelerated for the first time in almost three years, while still remaining within the Reserve Bank’s target band, suggesting no impediment to policymakers delivering further easing to support the economy.

The Consumers Price Index rose 2.5% in the first quarter from a year earlier, quickening from 2.2% three months prior, Statistics New Zealand data showed Thursday in Wellington. The RBNZ and economists’ expectation was for a 2.4% gain. Consumer prices advanced 0.9% from the fourth quarter, exceeding estimates.

London rent inflation cooled to levels last seen two years ago, according to official data, in signs that cost-of-living pressures in the UK capital are starting to ease.

Average housing rents rose 9.1% in the year through March to £2,243 ($2,975.7) per month, figures from the Office for National Statistics showed Wednesday. It’s the weakest increase since May 2023 and a sharp slowdown from a peak of 11.5% at the end of last year. Rents edged up just 0.3% on the month.

Tariffs, Slowing Growth, and Higher Inflation: What to Look for in Powell’s Speech Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is set to speak Wednesday afternoon in his second public appearance since President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs on U.S. imports on April 2. Powell will deliver prepared remarks on the economy at 1:30 p.m. Eastern at the Economic Club of Chicago, followed by a moderated discussion. Trump introduced a 90-day suspension on April 9 for some trading partners, and hinted this past weekend at exemptions for select technologies. He said Monday...

Inflation eased back last month, paving the way for interest rate cuts next month in a boost for Rachel Reeves. Prices, as measured by the consumer prices index (CPI), rose by 2.6pc in the year to March, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), down from 2.8pc in February. The drop is more than analysts’ expectations of a fall to 2.7pc. Statisticians said the fall was driven by a drop in petrol and diesel prices, as escalating trade tensions pushed down expectations for global growth. The price of a...

Annual inflation eased for a second month in a row in the U.K., teeing up a new cut to interest rates as policymakers grow increasingly worried about the economic hit from U.S. President Trump’s changeable tariff policy.

The consumer-price index rose 2.6% in March from a year earlier, slowing from an annual rate of inflation of 2.8% in February, the U.K.’s Office for National Statistics said Wednesday.

The general consensus among informed political analysts is that the Republicans emerged from last November’s election in control of the White House and Congress due to the border crisis and persistent inflation. The Trump administration curtailed the influx of illegal immigrants with remarkable speed and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March suggests that inflation is also returning to the modest levels that prevailed throughout President Trump’s first term. The CPI declined by .01 percent last month, a year-over-year rate of 2.4 percent, while core inflation sank to a four-year...

Argentina’s inflation last month jumped the most since August amid increased currency volatility in the run-up to an expected vote on a fresh financing package from the International Monetary Fund.

Consumer prices rose 3.7% from February, surpassing the 2.7% median estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The previous monthly inflation print came in at 2.4%. Annual inflation slowed to 55.9%, according to government data published Friday.
