The D.C. NPR affiliate, WAMU, shut down its web-based local news site, the DCist, Friday morning and laid off 15 journalists. WAMU General Manager Erika Pulley-Hayes did this, she told Axios, to refocus on the core radio product. ā€œWe’re making the choice to invest in what we’re better at than anyone else in this town, and that’s audio,ā€ Pulley-Hayes said. Thursday, DCist staffers received an email announcing an all-staff Zoom meeting to discuss a ā€œnew strategic framework.ā€ When visitors try to access the site, a message appears: ā€œThank you for...

What do Tucker Carlson and Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters have in common?

According to social media posts, both have been targeted for inclusion on a "kill list" backed by the Ukrainian government.

After Carlson, the former Fox News host, traveled to Moscow to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin, a Feb. 7 Instagram video claimed that "Ukraine puts Tucker Carlson on a ā€˜hit list’ after an interview with Vladimir Putin."

American journalist Tucker Carlson has spent several days in Russia and even attended a ballet performance at the Bolshoi Theatre, Telegram channel Mash reported on Saturday, sharing several photos of the conservative commentator.

Carlson allegedly touched down at Vnukovo airport on a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul on Thursday after several hours’ delay, according to the channel. He was later spotted taking in the ballet Spartacus at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

Russian state news agencies on Friday reported that Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich had lost an appeal against his detention.

The 32-year-old is the first US citizen to face spying charges since 1986 when the Soviet KGB secret service Nicholas Daniloff, a Moscow correspondent for US News and World Report, was arrested.

The period of detention of Evan Gershkovich ... is extended by two months ... till March 30," the court said on Telegram.

Nearly three decades after it was established, Pitchfork, the most influential music publication of the internet age with the power to make or break an artist, is being absorbed by another entity — a men’s fashion and style magazine.

The website, beloved for being one of modern music’s true centers of gravity and renowned for its daily record reviews scored 0.0 to 10.0, will be folded into GQ, parent company CondĆ© Nast announced Wednesday.

The U.S. State Department reportedly confirmed the death of Chilean-American blogger Gonzalo Lira, who had been imprisoned in Ukraine for criticizing the country's government.

"We can confirm the death of a U.S. citizen in Ukraine. We offer our sincerest condolences to the family on their loss," a State Department official told Russian news agency TASS.

"We stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance. Out of respect to the family during this difficult time, we have no further comment," the official added.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Sunday that an Al Jazeera journalist and another reporter who were killed in an airstrike in Gaza on Sunday were riding in a vehicle with a Hamas terrorist who was a drone operator.

Al Jazeera’s role in covering the war has been under scrutiny, as it airs anti-Israel propaganda — and cuts off Palestinians who complain (much to the surprise of Al Jazeera reporters) about Hamas.

In Washington, DC, the Al Jazeera White House correspondent routinely challenges Biden administration policy on Israel.

The eldest son of Al Jazeera's Gaza bureau chief has been killed in an Israeli strike in southern Gaza.

Hamza al-Dahdouh, an Al Jazeera network journalist and cameraman, was driving in a car with other journalists along a road between Khan Younis and Rafah on Sunday when it was hit.

Freelance journalist Mustafa Thuraya was also killed. A third journalist, Hazem Rajab, was seriously injured.

Four other members of bureau chief Wael al-Dahdouh's family have been killed.
