Earlier this year, I testified before the Colorado legislature in opposition to House Bill 25-1109, which would have required death certificates to reflect decedents’ ā€œgender identity,ā€ rather than their sex. The proposal was self-evidently absurd—death certificates are legal documents, not tributes to decedents’ subjective sense of self. Nevertheless, the legislature passed the bill, which awaits Governor Jared Polis’s signature.

In the Trump administration's latest anti-transgender action, the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education Friday announced a Title IX Special Investigations Team to investigate what they call ā€œthe pernicious effects of gender ideology in school programs and activities.ā€ By that they mean acceptance of transgender students. In a press release, they claimed they have received ā€œa staggering volume of Title IX complaints.ā€ Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 bans sex discrimination in educational programs that receive federal funding.

The nation’s LGBTQ research field is collapsing.

In recent weeks, academics who focus on improving the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Americans have been subjected to waves of grant cancellations from the National Institutes of Health. More than 270 grants totaling at least $125 million of unspent funds have been eliminated, though the true sum is likely much greater, researchers told NBC News.

When I heard the news of passing at the age of 90, as it is with the passing of most of those from another era, my first response was, ā€œIt’s too bad no one knows who he is anymore.ā€ If you are a man of a certain age, you no doubt had a crush on Chamberlain. He was incredibly good-looking, with that rich baritone voice. I think it was because of that ā€œmanlyā€ voice, and the fact that so many women had a crush on Chamberlain that never in a...

The White House Correspondents’ Association is scrapping the traditional portion of its annual dinner, marking a striking departure from a decades-long practice of balancing press freedom with satire. The decision comes amid heightened tensions between the Trump White House and the , and just weeks after the WHCA announced that queer comedian and Emmy-nominated writer Amber Ruffin would headline the April 26 event in WHCA President Eugene Daniels shared the update in a letter to the White House press corps on Saturday. ā€œAt this consequential moment for journalism, I want...

Sophia Ahmed delivered the news on Monday with a two-word message in all capital letters: ā€œWE WON.ā€ A court had ruled that the annual, on-campus drag show she and classmates at Texas A&M University had organized could still happen this Thursday. Since May, the students had booked a theater, selected performers and started selling tickets — plans the university system interrupted last month by banning drag events on its campuses, citing President Donald Trump’s ā€œDay 1ā€ executive order on gender ideology. Blocking the show ā€œbecause it offends some members of...

The governing body said cheek or 'dry blood tests' would likely be the type of testing used.

World Athletics announced it will begin mandatory gender testing for female athletes in order to protect the integrity of women's sports.

The organization formerly known as the International Association of Athletics Federations revealed at a press conference that after a comprehensive review, it was ready to move forward with gender tests in order to ensure female athletes at their events are indeed female.

A federal judge from New Jersey temporarily blocked the Trump administration from separating two transgender service members from the Air Force.

The ruling is the second instance when a federal judge has ruled against the Trump administration as it seeks to implement its ban against transgender people from serving in the military.

A federal judge has struck down Texas A&M's ban on drag shows, determining it to be a violation of the First Amendment. Motivated by Donald Trump's executive order denying the existence of trans people, the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents voted to ban drag performances across all 11 campuses earlier this month, claiming that the art form was somehow ā€œoffensiveā€ and ā€œinconsistent" with the ā€œcore values of its universities, including the value of respect for others.ā€ The Board of Regents vote cancelled a performance of "Draggieland" (a combination...

Major League Baseball has removed the word ā€œdiversityā€ from the careers page of its website, joining other corporations that have pulled back on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts since President Trump took office.

ā€œOur values on diversity remain unchanged,ā€ MLB said in a statement to the Associated Press on Friday.

ā€œWe are in the process of evaluating our programs for any modifications to eligibility criteria that are needed to ensure our programs are compliant with federal law as they continue forward.ā€
