Rudy Giuliani offered to sell presidential pardons for $2 million during his time as then-President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, according to a lawsuit a former Giuliani aide filed Monday in New York.

Noelle Dunphy also alleged the former New York mayor pressured her into having sex with him and still owes nearly $2 million for her work as director of business development for Giuliani’s companies and as his executive assistant from 2019 to 2021.

Dunphy alleged Giuliani tried to rope her into a scheme to sell presidential pardons.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Saturday that he intends to pardon a US Army sergeant who was recently convicted of murdering a Black Lives Matter protester in 2020.

When Philip Esformes walked out of prison in December 2020, he'd spent four and a half years behind bars, the majority of which were in solitary confinement. He reportedly weighed about 130 pounds. He was, in many ways, a broken man. But Esformes' luck was changing: He had recently received clemency from former President Donald Trump, giving him the chance to rebuild his life after paying a debt to the country.

That fortune has quickly soured.

The left supports the pardons, and argues that marijuana should be decriminalized.

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and President Joe Biden are once again butting heads on policy — this time over marijuana.

Biden announced he’ll formally grant pardons to everyone in the U.S. who’s been convicted of federal offenses of simple possession of marijuana and he asked that governors consider doing the same at the state level, where the vast majority of pot offenders are convicted.

So far, we know of at least one who said no.

President Biden on Thursday said that he'll ask for a review of whether marijuana should remain classified as a Schedule 1 substance under federal law.

Why it matters: This could be momentous for the upstart U.S. cannabis industry, which has been slowed at every turn by federal prohibitions.

What to know: Most cannabis companies are unable to use federally chartered banks, largely owing to the Schedule 1 designation, and instead are relegated to using state-chartered banks and credit unions.

Biden's bombshell weed announcement is both bigger and smaller than it might seem. On Thursday afternoon, President Joe Biden announced that he would be pardoning some federal convictions for marijuana possession and urged states to do the same. He also asked Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra to initiate a review of how marijuana is classified under federal law. "Sending people to jail for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives – for conduct that is legal in many states," Biden tweeted.
