Palantir Technologies Inc. shares fell 10% on Wednesday, and continued to slide in after-hours trading, following a report that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has asked officials for plans on how to slash military spending.

Palantir, which has seen its stock soar by almost 50% this year, is a major US defense contractor. It also sells technology and artificial intelligence products to other allied governments and private companies...

President Trump’s decision to fire senior military leaders without cause is foolish and a disgrace. It politicizes our professional military in a dangerous and debilitating way. What frightens me even more is the removal of three judge advocates general, the most senior uniformed legal authorities in the Defense Department. Their removal is one more element of this administration’s attack on the rule of law, and an especially disturbing part.

One America News Network would soon replace NBC News and Breitbart would swap with National Public Radio in coveted Pentagon press corps workspace under a plan shared with journalists Friday night.

In what the Pentagon is calling a new “annual media rotation program,” The New York Post will also be invited to move into The New York Times’ workspace. And a fourth outlet affected by the rotation program, Politico, would be replaced by HuffPost.

Several major media companies were told they would need to vacate their office spaces at the Pentagon, in favor of other outlets. Pentagon officials told the news agencies on Friday night. 

NBC News, The New York Times, National Public Radio and Politico must vacate their dedicated workspaces. The organizations learned about the new directive in a memo sent to the press corps without being individually notified, according to NBC News. The Pentagon released an email saying in part, “no additional information will be provided at this time.”

The Trump Pentagon under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a massive overhaul of its practice allowing journalists to work from inside the building is beginning a program to remove four establishment media news outlets from their workspaces for one year to replace them with new media outlets, including Breitbart News.

Retired Gen. Mark Milley, who served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Trump and Biden administrations, has had both his security detail and his security clearance revoked, the Pentagon says.

New Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth "informed General Milley today that he is revoking the authorization for his security detail and suspending his security clearance as well," Pentagon spokesman John Ullyot told CBS News in a statement Tuesday night.

The Senate on Thursday voted to advance Pete Hegseth's nomination to be President Donald Trump's defense secretary, putting him on a path to final confirmation at the end of the week.

The vote was 51 to 49, with just two Republicans — moderate Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Susan Collins of Maine — voting with all 47 Democrats to try to block Hegseth. He needed a simple majority to advance to a final vote.

The Defense Department went on its biggest monthlong spending spree since the height of the war on terror, dumping nearly $80 billion in a rush to empty its accounts before the end of the fiscal year.

In just the final five business days of September alone, the Pentagon spent $33.1 billion, according to Open the Books, a watchdog. That’s more in five days than nearly every other nation on earth spends in a year on their military.

The big-ticket spending items from September were to be expected: $3 billion on ammunition, and nearly $8 billion spent on aircraft.
