When the polls fully close in the first handful of states on Tuesday, it won’t mark the finish line of the midterm elections.

Instead, it will be the start of a days-long process of tabulating the votes in many of the most important states, ultimately determining which party will control Congress next year and by what margins.

Politico elections forecaster Steven Shepard changed the rating of the U.S. Senate race in Arizona to a ā€œtoss upā€ Wednesday, shifting it away from Democrats less than two weeks away from the election.

Republican Blake Masters has surged in recent weeks on a wave of support for GOP priorities such as immigration, inflation, and crime. Masters has also been aided by a strong Republican performance in the Arizona gubernatorial race by former television news anchor Kari Lake, according to Politico.

Former President Donald Trump's claim that the documents seized by the FBI in a Mar-a-Lago raid were "all declassified" is not unprecedented, if he can prove it happened.

In the past, prosecutors have seen some leeway in exactly how a president may be able to declassify information without a clear paper trail, Politico noted.

A recent Politico article (5/20/22) had the headline, ā€œHow Gen X Became the Trumpiest Generation.ā€ Yet the article’s focus seems to be mostly on Iowa state Rep. Cherielynn (ā€œCherieā€) Westrich, a former rock singer who got into politics at age 50 as a solid supporter of Donald Trump.

The strawman mystery that informs the story is: How in the world did a former rock singer become a ā€œsolidly conservative representative from blue-collar southeast Iowa who is pro-gun and anti–vaccine mandateā€?

Unless and until proven otherwise, we must assume that the outrageous leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion in the Mississippi abortion case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, is an attempt to intimidate the justices by inciting the radical left. It must be investigated by the FBI as a potential crime.

No one expected that the news of Roe v. Wade’s imminent demise would come as it did — in an extraordinary late-night leak of a draft opinion two months before the end of the Supreme Court’s session. But everyone should have expected that it would, eventually, come.

The leak of a U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn the constitutional right to abortion is a major breach of confidentiality that has heightened the stakes in an already politically-charged case, experts say.

Politico on Monday night published a draft majority opinion that it had obtained striking down the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which guaranteed the right to abortion nationwide. It was a sign that the court’s 6-3 conservative majority was ready to flex its muscle.

The Supreme Court may soon be ready to overturn the only federal abortion protections in the country, according to a draft of an opinion obtained by Politico. The court is expected to announce its ruling, on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, sometime before July.
