National retailer Big Lots, which is based in Columbus, Ohio, announced this week that it has found a buyer that will keep at least 200 stores open, while also possibly keeping some staff intact. Earlier this month, Big Lots announced that it would begin holding Going Out of Business (GOB) sales at all of its remaining stores after failing to reach a purchase agreement with Nexus Capital Management. Now, the discount retailer has reached a deal with Gordon Brother Retail Partners, LLC, which enables the transfer of Big Lots’ assets,...

Starbucks baristas' fast-growing unfair labor practice strike is expected to hit historic levels Tuesday as hundreds of stores nationwide prepare to join walkouts at the coffee giant. The Starbucks Workers United strike, prompted by failed union contract negotiations, began Friday and is expected to continue to escalate during the holidays - potentially affecting more than 300 stores nationwide, according to Workers United.

Some Walmart employees in Texas are wearing body cameras as part of a pilot program to enhance employee safety at stores. Workers at multiple stores, located in Denton, Texas, about 40 miles north of Dallas, began testing out the body cameras. The locations also have signage, warning shoppers that body-worn cameras are being used. "While we don’t talk about the specifics of our security measures, we are always looking at new and innovative technology used across the retail industry," Walmart said in a statement to FOX Business. CEOS SAY SHRINK...

Lord & Taylor, America's oldest department store chain, is making a comeback with an old logo, new owners and a new vision. The iconic company, established in 1826 and with a long history in fashion, shuttered its brick-and-mortar stores in 2021 after years of financial hardship exacerbated by the pandemic. An e-commerce reboot also failed. Now, under new owners Regal Brands Global, who acquired Lord & Taylor's intellectual property, the store and brand is looking to reclaim its lofty position in the retail industry with an online comeback in 2025...

Macy's, which launched a comprehensive strategy to revive its struggling business, announced Wednesday that it is accelerating its planned store closures for the year. CEO Tony Spring told analysts during an earnings call that Macy’s now expects to close about 65 locations this year, up from its previous forecast of 50 announced at the start of the year. However, Spring added that the "closures will occur post holiday." The company is still on track with its plans to close 150 locations over three years as part of its strategy dubbed,...

Costco shoppers may encounter membership card scanners at the doors to the warehouse retailer during an upcoming trip. The company says on its customer service website that scanners "will be used at the entrance door of your local warehouse" in the coming months. "Once deployed, prior to entering, all members must scan their physical or digital membership card by placing the barcode or QR Code against the scanner. Guests must also be accompanied by a valid member for entry," Costco says. FOX Business reached out to the warehouse retailer for...

Shoplifting has soared in the U.S. in 2024, forcing many stores to leave cities and continuing a trend in recent years.

Shoplifting has risen 24% in the first half of 2024 alone, according to newly released data from the Council on Criminal Justice.

The White House cited the CCJ’s data to boast a drop in violent crime so far this year, but a closer look at the data showed that while violent crime has declined, shoplifting continues to rise. CCJ studied 23 U.S. cities.

Walmart is now offering bonuses to its hourly employees in the U.S., the company announced Wednesday. The retail behemoth said in a press release full- and part-time hourly workers will be eligible for the new bonus, which it says "rewards great work and customer service, and it celebrates long-term associates who build a career." The longer an associate has been with the company, the higher the associate's bonus potential, to a maximum of $1,000. "It's important that we are competitive on base wages," Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner told reporters...

Losing your luggage on a flight is any passenger's worst nightmare, but what if it ends up at an airline worker's home? That’s exactly what happened to Spirit Airlines passenger Paola Garcia, who used one of her Apple devices to track down her belongings after they were allegedly swiped by a worker inside Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, according to Local 10. Garcia told the news outlet that she had been waiting for her small pink hard-shell suitcase containing Apple devices like her personal MacBook and two Apple Watches,...

Apple workers at Towson store in Maryland have voted in favor of authorizing a strike, according to a statement from International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Coalition of Organized Retail Employees (IAM CORE) .

The Union, which represents Apple workers in Maryland, said on Saturday that the staff will go for strike over concerns related to work-life balance, unpredictable schedules and wages failing to align with the area's cost of living.
