Snapchat rolled out more safety measures designed to protect teenagers, making it harder for predators to target them for "sextortion" -- a scam that exploits victims sexually and financially.

On Tuesday, Snapchat announced the new features that it will be integrating in the app, including expanded warning pop-ups, which the user would receive the moment someone not on their contact list tries contacting them.

Prosecutors are seeking a four-year prison sentence and three years of supervised release for Portsmouth High School shooting threat suspect Kyle Hendrickson, while his defense maintains he never intended to carry out a shooting. The 26-year-old from Berwick, Maine is set to be sentenced in federal court in Concord Tuesday, May 14 on two charges handed down by the U.S. attorney’s office for the District of New Hampshire. Impossible as it is to believe, Christopher Hitchens, the enfant terrible of Anglo-American politics and letters, would have turned 75 today, almost 13 years since his premature death from esophageal cancer in December 2011. Yet in many ways Hitchens seems more alive than ever. His name routinely crops up in contemporary debates, notwithstanding how different the political landscape looks in the Age of Donald and Elon. In the years since his passing, he has acquired a new generation of fans in the millions. His coinages (“Islamofascism”) have entered the contemporary...

Gulluni said the interactions were posted to the Snapchat social media app in February and involved many students who would join and leave the room.

Social media giant Snap, which operates Snapchat, has announced plans to cut "approximately" 10% of its staff.

The firm said in November 2023 it had 5,000 employees, suggesting around 500 people are facing redundancy.

It comes a day before Snap reports its fourth-quarter results - having reported a net loss of $368m (ÂŁ294m) in the previous quarter in October 2023.

Snapchat said the move would "reduce hierarchy and promote in-person collaboration".
